Mountains for Mia
Discussion
Guys,
I appreciate that posts like this appear on here quite a lot and I would never post something like this lightly.
On November 16th of last year, Mia Austin suffered a stroke. At 21 years of age.
This stroke was so devastating that it left her with 'locked in syndrome' - some of you will know what this is, but for those who don't it is basically paralysis of the entire body, with the exception of her eye balls.
The twist in this horrible story is that she is still 100% aware of what is going on. Take a moment to consider lying on your back, staring at the ceiling, entirely aware that you can't move. Personally, it makes me feel sick.
Mia needs thousands of £ worth of modifications to her family home before the hospital will allow her to come home.
I contacted a local contractor who has agreed to do the works free of charge, a massive weight off everyones mind.
She still needs a lot of equipment and specialist help.
I don't know the full prognosis, I do know that Mia has made some improvements, I think she has been able to twitch her cheek muscles.
A group of friends are doing the 3 peaks challenge climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.
The goal is to raise £3500 to help towards the equipment and services needed to enable Mia to live back with her family, and receive the support necessary for a quality life.
Please visit www.MountainsForMia.co.uk for more details on the challenge, and links to donate as much as you can.
Once again, apologies for posting this, I hope it doesn't contravene the rules and I hope you can take a moment to consider just how lucky each and every single one of you are just to be able to pick up your laptop or turn on your computer and view this forum, Mia can't.
Even Emsman... for all the s
te you have been through, you can still have a quality of life that we can only hope Mia will one day have again.

Get well soon Mia.
