Is it just me whos fed up of seeing the signs plastered in shops stating how great and kind they are by not increasing their prices with the VAT increase back to 17.5%?
It would be OK if they'd lowered them in the 1st place but a shop selling an item at 9.99 when the VAT went down that didn't reduce the ticket price (just took the 2.5% saving off at the till) and now selling at £9.99 has in fact raised the price! Really gets my goat how some retailers are trying to come across as generous when in fact they were milking us with the original VAT drop.

As I remember it, it was never intended to be passed on to consumers but was done to stimulate (rightly or wrongly) traders positions. Anything passed on was voluntary. If some shops didn't but are now claiming they did, that's a lie but not one I'm going to get vexed over.

its the shops that are selling somthing at £80 and have signes that say due to VAT rise an extra 2.5% will be added at point of sale making the item £81.77 or something . . .

Nothing was ever £81.77 it was £80 quid !!

having personally replaced 660ish shelf edge tickets I can safely say that my store did indeed reduce its prices accordingly. There was no mass increasing of prices after VAT returned to normal either.

Ive noticed that some companies that didnt decrease their prices are increasing them by 2.5% because of the price change.
