Queuing up in a bank rant.............
Discussion
OK,
Just been in my local Barclays bank to pay some dosh in, there are six windows open, plus a queue of around twenty people,... and when the customers at the window had finished their "business", and are just about to leave, the girls behind the counter chirp up with "Have you ever considered having your contents/home/car insurance with us?"......
This delays proceedings by at least 3-4 minutes at each window, which results in one very angry queue.....
Surely these matters can be left to the personal bankers, or a simple leaflet handed quickly through the window, explaining the policy details.....
Obviously I am not blaming the girls, they will have been TOLD to do this, but ffs!......

Exactly the same thing happens in a bank that used to sound like Tabby - but now sounds more like Salamander.Without fail the same woman asks me about reviewing my mortgage... no matter how many busy people are waiting behind me. If I wanted to talk about that I would ask them!
I rate that worthy of two:

Be thankful yours is even open. My local Barclays appears to never be open no matter what day/time I turn up. And the one time they were open, they were the most useless bunch of idiots I've ever come across - I went in to sort something which their call centre told me I had to sort out in person; the cashier told me that they couldn't do either business banking or premier banking in branch and to call the call centre who would sort it all for me over the phone
I think we just need to collectively get over being so polite. Someone flogging sky caught me at a bad moment at the weekend and I told him to p
s off, quite agressively, which isn't like me but he'd moved into my way and I was clearly in a hurry. Seemed to work fairly well.
The staff on the checkouts have targets on the number of people they have to flog the extra crap to, so it's not really their fault. Raise the issue with the customer service of the bank and if they don't do anything consider closing your account?

Natwest have paying in machines that scan the cheques and paying in slip and give you a nice receipt at the end. Takes about 2 minutes to finish and my local branch as a couple ready to be used. Importantly they have someone available to help customers with it and hence the queue for the open windows is for more complex issues - all nice and loverly.
Do the other high street banks not do this? Natwest are hardly the cutting edge!

MY local branch used to be open Mon - Fri 9-5 and 10-1 on Saturdays. Being open on Saturday was great because I could do my banking then. What with being in work during the week. Now they are 9.30-4.30 and not open at all on Saturday. I presume this was the same cost cutting measure which means they only ever seem to ahve 2 cashiers working at a time.Whenever I need to use a bank it is usually during my lunch break. Guess what?
All their staff are on their lunch break too and leaves just one or two windows open. I've found this happens in Sainbury's too. Massive queues at lunchtime - only a couple of checkouts open. I know their staff need a lunch break too, but this just looks like bad staff management to me.

Bank Rant: - when at counter..'sir you need to see our manager as your account has a flag on it'
me ' what is it' (a little worried here)..
TSB ' It doesn't say, but you need to speak to the manager
I'm in a rush but obviously this must be important so I wait to be called in to the office.
TSB: Right mr soir I just need to check some details on your account...when is your mortgage/home & car insurance up for renewal?
you fkkkk bar steward - had me worried, I'm in a god damn rush and your trying to sell me insurance?!

Try going to the post office, the one by me the people behind the counter usually have a 5 minute natter with the customers after they have finished posting their stuff.
Happens a lot. Tends to be OAP's mostly. Just one of those things, can't do too much about. When banking i also get asked any combination of questions about the insurance/mortgage/account upgrade.
If i wanted one, i'd bloody ask for it myself.

I've actually just looked the times up for my local branch. They are open Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri 9:30 - 3:30. And even then, they are sometimes closed at really random other times too. And even when they are open, most of the time they refuse to deal with business banking. Mod note: Please don't name and shame on PH.
