Has anyone else found just a chick head and egg white in an egg when they've cracked it open? How the hell did the head grow on it's own? Did I open the egg too early, would it's body have carried on growing if I hadn't have cracked it open?

unless incubated eggs do not continue to grow, it just mean that one was fertilised and was partially formed.

Eggs are strange full stop!

I have enough problems with the protein stringy bits let alone the occasional half baked head!! :yuk:

Trouble is I do love fried eggs.

I'm guessing this was a wild (free range proper farmyard) egg... not an 'out of the box' supermarket one?

...and no, I've never heard of this before but thanks for adding to my phobia interest.

Yes it was a free range egg. I don't understand how just a head could grow on it's own without a body though? If you could imagine a live chick and then cut it's head off, that's basically what I found in the egg. It had fur, beak, tongue, eyes..all the bits, I even thought I saw it's beak open when I first looked at it. Maybe it was alive and I killed it when I emptied him into the pan? I did drop him from quite a height.

It must have been a biological malfunction (lethal mutation) - it couldn't have been alive because it would have no heart or bodily organs. Either fertilised or parthenogenesis...

Hmm.

Why didn't you eat it?

You wasted a perfectly good foetus chicken head?

I'm appalled.
