Evening,

So after a lot of thinking about what i want to do and need to do in my life i have decided that i want to move to another country.

I am thinking Europe as it avoids any major issues with Visa's etc but what to do!?

SWMBO is a teacher in Drama, has a degree and masters, i am a digital marketing consultant/part time new car salesman to friends etc..

Just really want to live somewhere else with a better climate, different people and somewhere i can get our lives setup relatively quickly..

Anyone have any suggestions and why??

Is SWMBO willing to move abroad too? That could cause problems otherwise...

SWMBO would move too - shes happy to try out somewhere new and different which is good!

I can speak a little German and french, she can speak a little french and spanish (i think)

either way it wouldnt be too hard to learn fairly quickly when submerged in another country im sure (slightly narrow minded view i know) but would be keen to learn.

Russia/Estonia have always been interesting places to me but i wouldnt want to live there full time, hence wanting to stick to western europe really..

I wouldnt bother doing half a job and moving across the water to europe - Lots of the same problems, economies, tax, english people etc wink

If you're going to do it, then why not go the whole hog and go to Oz!?

You don't need to speak a foreign language - just raise your voice - the louder you shout the better they will understand you! hehe

Seriously though, I'm sure if you chose an established ex-pat area you that would make things easier. Brother of a friend lives in Geneva - he is very clever and has a Spanish girlfriend, but they also lived in Italy and seem to get along very well.

Wish I had the guts to do this - maybe one day I will.

Good luck. smile

I agree to a point with what you said about Europe - but then to suggest Oz??? Its exactly the same but repeated on the other side of the world with some extra sunshine!
Sounds good to me, at least you can have a barby to wind down in the evening wink

As said by EB Oz is the UK but with sun.. same with US / Canada - i have considered all three as well. I just feel that Europe is close enough to friends/family to visit without any major cost but different enough to make it worth it..

Thanks for the replies guys.. i will keep all updated with the progress.. may take a while to sort i fear haha.

Switzerland? Lots of UK companies are setting up there due to the tax breaks. I have friends there that love it, beautiful place, mountains, skiing, great education system, low crime etc.

We thought about Switzerland.

Mrs Monkey works in financial services, so there are loads of places for her.

Not too bad for manufacturing and production engineering either (Nestle do a lot over there).

I think its quite expensive, but your standard of living will be higher and wages are in proportion.

Zero tolerance on drivers though. :-(
