What exactly do 'Bankers' do?

When I used to hear the word bankers, I always thought about the person who sits behind the desk at a bank... But these bankers, the ones who are actually making all the money And I presume work in the Banks Offices/HQ; What do they actually do?

How do they get into it? What sort of money are they actually making? Is there anyone on here who is a 'banker'?
