Advice please, landlord screwing me over
Discussion
Morning all,
A bit of advice required please. I've rented a flat since July '08, firstly on a 6 month contract then on a monthly rolling contract. I left the flat in january, following every clause the contract to the letter. My bills are paid, there is no damage to the property (I have pictures to prove).
I did not receive notification of my deposit (£700) being held in a government scheme (i didn't know it existed to be honest) and now my landlord won't answer/ return calls. The address on the contract for my landlord is another of his properties which he rents, so i can't go beat his door down. I do however have registered business addresses for both of his companies.
What is my best course of action here? I understand that he is liable for 3x the deposit amount if he cannot prove it was held in the correct account, but i also know he is a thieving scummer having had builders and court bailiffs knocking on my door looking for him and his money.
Cheers,
Ben

Have you gone directly to the DPS (Deposit Protection Service)? That will probably be the company that is holding your deposit. Perhaps they could offer some advice.
