CSA hounding people for money in new ways
Discussion
Sitting in work yesterday I recieved a text from an unknown number saying to contact the sender 'URGENTLY' regarding my maintenance payments. A bit odd as I pay regularly via a standing order, but thought there may have been a glitch so payment didn't go through.
I phoned the number to be greeted with a cheery "Hello you are speaking to Brian...blah blah blah"
Immediately my heckles went up when I was asked to give my adress, ref number and various personal details to prove who I was.
I refused on the basis that they were my personal details and he should prove who HE was (as he had contacted me initially) if I was going to discuss my private matters with him.
He apologised for the mess up, to which I responded that I was used to the inadequacies of the CSA as I had dealt with them for 17 years. He didn't quite know what to say to this
Anyway, he then informed me that apparently I have "arrears" to the sum of £1500 and that I needed to pay them off.
Fair point.
I agreed a paltry amount to be added to my already crippling monthly amount just to get them off my back and the conversation was concluded.
Or so I thought.
My new found text buddy then phoned me back less than 2 minutes later and asked if I wanted to pay the arrears off in total "by credit card"
"Ram it pie face" was my answer.
I hung up. Brian didn't call me back.
f
king cowboys.
I expect to be hassled via letters, but text and phone calls? f
k off.
Spleen vented. Thank you.
ETA: Anyone else had this sort of experience?

You've just put me off ever having kids!
Slightly OT, but I got a random text the other week saying "Our records indicate you may be entitled to 3750 pounds for the accident you had. To claim for free reply with AID to this msg."
It was at least 3 years ago now and I was the only one involved.

Do the CSA force employers to take money direct from your wages? (I mean generally not CVM's case)
If you work in a public sector job, they do. I had a dispute over my CSA a few years back. Without telling me, they just started to take it direct from my wages. The worse thing is they charge me an admin fee to do it….Justayellowbadge said:

They can and will.I've known people in the Forces who have had it taken directly from their pay packs without even knowing about it until they got a pay chit with a load of money missing.

How can they determine that you're in arrears if you pay a set amount every month?
In my case I was being "re-assessed", and because they took several months to work out my amount, they back date it to when the request was entered.Oddly, they are chasing me for these arrears when I pay my monthly amount regularly, but when my wifes ex stopped paying for a whole year, they did nothing.

They move the goal posts to suite their needs. I hate the CSA so much. There are so many different rules depending on when your "Account" was started. When they got involved with my case I had to supply them every outgoing / income etc etc and they put it into a magic computer and comeup with some stupid figure.
Then it changed to percentage of your income depending on how many children etc you have.
The list goes on and on...

and hence my total disrefgard for them over the phone. I've had 17 years of stress and worry because of them. I now treat them with the contempt they deserve and make it as awkward as possible for them. I'll be stopping paying soon anyway and they can chase me for the money. The funny thing is, I'm paying out more for one child than we are getting in for two children, and the child I am paying out for goes to a private school.
the whole system is f
ked. just as well I'm out of it soon, having paid approx £62k over the years. Most expensive shag I've ever paid for.
