So 2010 has been st........

At work, we've lost our major contract due to competitor companies somehow being able to operate at negative margins (how!?!). As a result I was made redundant last friday, 9 years of 'working my arse off' gone up in smoke. I have subsequently gone self employed and 'back on the tools'. Fair enough, times are tough, one has to do what one has to do, new chapter in life etc.... Must remain positive.

I had a feeling before christmas that this was coming and started the process of cutting my financial obligations in preperation of not having a guaranteed income. I moved back into my mothers (I moved out of my dad's at 17 and have been independant since, I'm now 25) house, the house has been free from when i moved in until the end of march when she returns from her annual break abroad, I haven't lived with my mother since she left when I was 12 and don't think I can handle it when she is back. I also moved from 'my' company car to a van to save on taxes. Holidays were postponed and my social life has deteriorated to nothing. I have managed to remain positive and plan for the future as I had the girlfriend for support, until yesterday............

We are now over, the one thing I had left keeping me going foward has now departed. Too long a story to explain. But to get to the end and the point of this post - I now have nothing stopping me reaching my teenage dream, I've just booked a flight to Thailand, 3 months on my own to do whatever I feel! I'm hurt beyond belief but liberated at the same time! I hope I don't regret that purchase tomorrow! Sorry for the extended post but I have no-one here to share my news so I thought I'd share it here! Bring on April 15th!

Feel for you; I went through pretty much the same thing in 2007 and ended up going to Japan for a month on my own; best thing I ever did. Chin up; your gonna love Thailand, and you never know, maybe you won't be back wink

You're not alone.

I'm currently hunting for a new job after my contract ended in February.

Your GF will have her reasons for leaving; no matter how shallow. You are still young however and there will be plenty more fish in the sea. What's for you won't go by you etc.

Bugger off for a few weeks, get slaughtered and start a new chapter when you return.

Good luck thumbup

Sounds fantastic, I lost my job this year, the (hopefully) last of many traumas and all I have felt like doing since is dissapearing for while over in Eastern Europe. Enjoy your break and you will be fighting fit when you return.

Well done you! Go for it!

25 is no age. You're still a baby. When I was only a couple of years younger than you I buggered off overland to Australia. It was a wonderful experience. Opened my eyes and gave me a new perspective on life.

Life is to be enjoyed. Go and enjoy it mate.

Meh.
Not too sound harsh but the chances of you going through all this again still exist. It's life.
Lose job, lose gf, lose friends/family. frown

On a positive note Thailand is a great place to let off steam and get your self confidence back. Enjoy it and pick yourself up when you return in a more positive frame of mind and all this will seem a distant memory. It's all life affirming stuff.

(don't be sucked in by the Thai girls. They really are after your money and don't really "love you long time" hehe)

I suspect that, if you make the most of what will be a tremendous opportunity, you will look back at this time as a period that helped define who you are and what you do.

Make the most of it, and enjoy yourself.

Good luck.

I appreciate all the comments, thank you

I intend to make the most of it! But...

No intentions of experiencing thai girls i'm afraid, or any other girls for that matter. My girlfriend was the ONLY one for me, I can't see anyone beyond her, as soppy as that sounds its how I feel and don't intend to change that.

I fully intend to keep the ph faithful posted and hopefully extremely jealous of my adventure!

You have a positive attitude even when things are not going well. I think you will be a success in life - because to me attitude is 50% of it.

I think the phrase is 'fair-weather friend'. Redundancy is a good test to find out who your real friends are.

At least now you have only yourself to please and can plan for the future, your way, and anything that comes along is a bonus.

So you have no obligations, your health, some money and a plane ticket to thailand??

Cheer up, unless there is something you haven't mentioned, you seem to be in a good situation with a bad head on. Once you get your head sorted, you'll be ecstatic about it all. (About the future that is. The past doesn't matter anyway)
