Wonder instead of wander, one for the spelling Nazis

Much in the same vein as people using the word 'brought' in place of 'bought', which gets on my tits.

A girl I've started seeing, who is otherwise a very intelligent young woman says wonder instead of wander, e.g. lets go out for a wonder around the park.

She's from Manchester, is it a local thing or is it just a bad habit she's picked up? She says she's never really thought of it as being wrong but see's what I'm saying, doesn't stop her from carrying on using it though!

Its not necessarily an accent thing, its the actual word not the pronunciation.

I brought it up and laughed at her, she said there wasn't anything wrong with it and doesn't think of it as being wrong, yet recognises the difference between the 2 words.
