Right so the OH and I have now been properly together for a month. Which is all very nice, exciting and whatever else.

But there is a problem that is manifesting itself in the form of 'complicated mental' from the OH's best friend. I am led to believe that the OH and this lass have been friends since they were tots and as such they're very close. Fine, no problems there. I was aware that this lass has mental health problems as well as an eating disorder (probably the same condition rather than two separate). Again, fine, had numerous family members of a similar age with the same thing. Can cope.

Well apparently not. This girl is perfectly polite to me, we've had chats and I've gone out of my way to make sure I'm nice / don't inadvertently say anything I shouldn't etc... I even got brownie points from the OH for my efforts. But there is a problem. She can be as nice as she likes to me, but I have now started receiving messages, mostly in the form of emails, to various blogs she seems to keep. As well as wall messages on 'the facebook' (no judging... facebook is useful) that invariably stay for around 10 minutes before being deleted.

These messages say things like "I'm so glad she's found someone blah blah ... so happy for her ... can't stop smiling ... blah blah ... I'll be alright ... I don't mind ... I can cope by myself" etc... and this morning's blog post goes along the lines of (paraphrased, but the jist is there):

Mental Girl said:
I fail. I'm so happy for her. She can be happy and I'll just die. I'd rather die. I'm sure she won't mind. She can focus on him etc...
This is starting to get a little on my nerves, and making me feel like some sort of big turd that has been shat out on her life. I could understand her being miffed if I was taking up every ounce of the OH's time, but I'm not. We see each other (due to work commitments & distance) on either saturday or sunday, and mondays. Two evenings a week; and those evenings are days when those two never saw each other anyway.

The OH is completely stressed out about the situation anyway and it's now getting to a point that that's all we talk about. This Girls has a huge circle of friends and people that care for her, as well as various shrinks and tablets (which she refuses to take because 'they might make me fat'). So many people are trying to help her, but she won't let them. At all.

Quite frankly I'm starting to wonder if she's just some control freak who enjoys sympathy / playing games. Seems like it.

/Rant.

And I've just realised I've called someone with a mental illnes 'mental girl'. Oh well, the PC lot will love that.

I seriously dislike people who play games like that. Theres only one thing to do that'll solve things, and thats shoot her in the face.
You can all bang on about how she has a mental problem, but the simple fact is, is shes emotionally blackmailing her friend to leave you for her. Its sick and selfish, and if your OH had any sense she'd see this and crush her mad

Well this is the thing now; the OH is trying to loosen the contact she has with her, as it's having an effect on her work / sleep etc... but it's just making this lass send more weird stuff.

I'd feel awful if this lass did, well, die. But at the same time she's really really pushing it.

Get down to Greggs, get her a couple of pies and a steak bake as a sort of "No hard feelings" present.

Job done.

I'm guessing by your screen name that you are either 21 or 22.

Unless she can suck a golf ball through a garden hose, get out now. There are plenty more fish without "issues" out there for you.

Your girl needs to dump her friend - she isn't one!

Although the number next to my username wasn't intended to bear resemblance to my age, it almost does. I'm 21.

But the thing is, the OH is rather wonderful (yeah yeah, honeymoon period and all that). It's just this turd ruining everything.

You've been seeing her for only a month? I would dump her now before you make any further emotional investment. This is only going to end badly.

Plenty of other women out there without the jealous, needy, unbalanced, friend baggage.

I have a mate whose partner is like your mrs - she goes around collecting basket cases as friends and tries to fix them with disasterous results, at least it boosts her self esteem

Mental is what mental does.

Irrational and selfish behavior, seen it all first hand - easier long term to stay the hell away from it!

Hmm...I have met the rest of the OH close friends and tbh they're all mature and balanced. It literally is just this one.
