What would you do?
Discussion
So this morning the postie came round witht the usual array of junk mail. Along with it though, was a letter from the bank, confirming our shiny new over draft and in with is is someone elses letter confirming their overdraft.
I have the address, A/C number and sort code. Not good form from mr bank man, question is what would you do/
Hand it in to branch?
Forward it to original person or
spend spend spend
Nick
Obviously i have no intention of spending any of this persons money

Another example of the kind of poor service we've come to expect in this country.
If the persons address/phone number is on there I'd suggest getting in contact with them. Otherwise if you contact the bank, they'll probably cover up the fact that sent that sort of information to the wrong person

Thats what i thought, i would hate it if they did it to me and i guarantee if i take it in to branch, they will cover it up and nothing will ever get said to the other person. If the persons address/phone number is on there I'd suggest getting in contact with them. Poor service indeed.....
Very easy mistake to make, I've done the 'packing', 2 piles, one of letters & one of envelopes, 9 hour day. Silly mistakes like that happen, just hand it in to branch, they'll be apologetic and all the usual rubbish.
As for finding out who did it, that'll be nigh on imposable.
ETA;
Although the team which is responsible for doing the packing for that particular service will get a talking to, mainly just a manager will mention it in a team huddle.

Oopsie! Not much you can do really apart from deposit money into their account, surely?Set up a direct debit online or on the phone - in their name.
It's surprising what you can do if the system has less than adequate security.

Shortly afterwards someone setup a direct debit for a monthly donation to a charity from his account!

The Bank had to pay JC back as the DD was not authorised by the account holder, so the only people that lost out was the Bank.

I later received another emailing far less formal informing me they ha received discount and free stuff.
Somehow I felt hard done by!
Wifey did mention this as it happens. We talked abput it and thought that if we inform the person they would get compensated, is there no way for me to get some free stuff too?Somehow I felt hard done by!
I want free stuff

As it happens, we did a covering letter and stuffed it back in the post box.
Having worked in a billing processing centre these mistakes can happen. Mail is inserted on machines at very high speed and with a human at the controls, well its only a matter of time. The machines have counters to check that you have X amount of envelopes at the end to match X amount of statements/letters at the beginning, but if the minimum wage earning, temp agency operator can't be bothered looking for the missing piece then this is the result.
You can shout at the bank if you like, but they won't be the ones who actually made the mistake and they are not likely to change their processing company over it. Contact your local branch and send them the other person's statement. I know I wouldn't like knowing someone else had seen my details, so as ignorance is bliss, best not to contact the account holder directly.
