In our house we've got 3 cars, me, my mum and my dad all have one each. Last year my sis came to stay for a few months (she's had another baby - gorgeous kid!) and so shes staying for a few months as it's hard looking after 2 kids etc etc. Anyway she had her own car, which was in my name, insured by me and taxed by me too. I had originally bought this car and she wanted it off me so she gave me some money and the rest is yet to come. She then part exchanged it along with her husbands car to get an estate.

She and her husband regularly use my mums car (new Passat) and my dads and my sis uses mine too.

Last week her estate was at the end of the drive and I asked if i could take it for an hour as I was going to see my friend, who lives pretty close.

Her response.... 'no , it's my car'.

At this point I got rather angry (or mental) and pointed out that she uses any f***ing car she pleases whenever she likes, she still owes me money on a car she px'd to get her car and she spends half her time driving my mums brand new car (of which I paid half for) and I don't act like a spoilt child about it.

Then last weekend her husband actually switched their estate and my mums car round (so my mums car was behind his) and then him and my sis took it out shopping an hour later. This riled me again.

I have now told my mum/dad that i;m taking sis and husband off the insurances cos it's one thing being tight but actually going to the effort of switching cars round so they can use someones elses is a joke.

Am i being uber pathetic?

Divorce your family. It's the only answer. You know it makes sense.

Sorry to break it to you, but by the sound of it - you're not likely to see the rest of it (at least not very soon).

Is this really the biggest thing you have to worry about? Jeez you've got an easy life.

Yes you have a point, yes you are being a bit pathetic, but more than anything else you need to get something in your life pronto

Im lost...

You have paid for her car, her tax, she is a named driver on your insurance (or do you just pay hers?).

They then part ex the car which was not hers for a new one and got you pay it all again?

You pay for your folks cars or at least part of them?

They come live in the family home (I assume) cause the 2 of them cant cope with 2 kids? Did they rent/own previously?

Maybe they are short of money... Or just a sponger... Sponger sounds better and you would be the doormat...

WTF... you either have more money than sense (3 cars in the household suggest this) and they are taking advantage.

Im still lost

you think thats bad, i remember when i had my first car. It was a mk3 golf 1.4 and i used to love it. When i eventually came to buy another vehicle the golf stayed on the drive for a couple of weeks as i wanted to spruce it up a bit then advertise it.

The problem i found is that a member of my family had come to visit for a few days and had developed a problem with his vehicle on the way up. As it turned out it was only a HT lead that had broken down so i suggested borrow one off my golf to get home. Ther only thing is the cheeky ste decided to unbolt the air box on top the single point unit and dropped one of the small nuts down the inlet manifold. Now most normal people would tell the owner of said golf and offer to help get this problem resolved. Unfortunatley this didnt happen and it was re-assembled and that was that.

When muggins here replaced the HT lead and tried to start the car i had all sorts of fking problems, and cost me a arm and a leg to fix.

Im still waiting for a apology or even better, a cheque.

yeah sorry buddy

i bought a car which she 'bought' off me, but never paid me the full amount and for the year she had it I still paid for the ins/tax. It was that car that they p/x'd for their estate. They pay all the bills on that, hence not wanting to use it unless exclusively for themselves.

I dont pay for the folks cars but my mum wanted a new one and to be nice I paid for half of it cos hey shes my mum and I liked the look of the new R Line Passat!

They've got their own pad in a diff city (owned) but she's staying for a few months till the little one doesn't need round the clock attention.

She is deffo not short of money - i think your doormat comment is rather appropriate.

3 cars is ok cos theres one for each of us. As we have a single long drive we all are insured on each others motors otherwise we'd be forever moving cars round!

Still funny.

To the OP, she is a spoilt brat who hasn't had to work for anything in her life. You have all made it too easy for her and its now what she expects. You will never see the rest of the money. Sounds like your parents will not stand up to her either.
You need to move out and NOW!
Leave her and your parents to get on with it.

I have come across situations in Asian families before where the car ownership is all tied up between "I own car 1, brother owns car 2, sister owns something else, Dad says she has to be able to drive car 1 when she wants to because he lent brother the money for car 2" etc etc - I'm guessing this is a normal/cultural thing anyway?

well here's an interesting thing. Firstly that cars sold and gone so if there was any fronting then i'll put my hands up and say sorry. But when she wanted it I told the ins co and the ins co. said as long as everyone in our household was insured on every car for every purpose (we've all got business insurance) then it would not be considered fronting!

That was what i was TOLD not what i am claiming to be legally correct.

Indeed but just because you did it, and stopped doesnt make it anymore legal..

also if she was living elsewhere using the car as the main driver - this is also illegal.

This is the problem with larger families with policies that cover everyone.. it can get very messy.

Anyways.. back on topic..

Tell her you want the money back by the end of the week.

If she doesn't pay it, kidnap the baby and send it to pakistan.

Since you've fallen out with your sister, do you think it would be ok if, for the rest of this thread, we refer to her as "that slag"?
