Getting white deodorant stains out of Black shirts?

Guys,

I have a couple of nice Black shirts (not the Oswald Mosely type!) - one Armarni and one Paul Smith. Now neither of them were cheap - and I've only worn them a couple of times each - but I've noticed they both have white stains/marks under the arm pits (no doubt from my Gillete "clear-gel" anti-perspirant/deodorant).

I have tried soaking them in neat Aerial/Persil liquid and washing them again - better, but still there.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this stuff out? Seems a shame to write off a few hundred quid of shirts after two wears!

It should wash out in the machine. I have the same problem with that deodorant, if you've just put something on and it marks, use a damp flannel to brush it off.

I have had tshirts with certain dye colours that mark badly and don't seem to wash well though (pale green and deep blue).

My mum got me a daft wee sponge for just this...well it ends up not being so daft, it actually does take the white stains out (pity I can't remember what it is called)

Try one of the spray on bleach type stain removers - it doesn't bleach btw - and try a tougher wash cycle. I have found that the best is the Cotton 40 for work shirts - not the Easy Care 40 - and if need be go for an intensive wash if you can.

Petrol, apply carefully to the area with a cloth, then wash them immediately after in the washing machine.

Deodorant and anti-perspirant are two different things. The latter is usually responsible for white marks. Unless you desperately need the anti-perspirant element, switch to deodorant.

I get that with the Gillette gel deodorant too, but its by far the best one IMO.

I use white vinegar - soak for a few hours and then wash out. I have lost a few shirts doing this but when they've got nice and crusty they are only fit for the bin then you have nothing to lose.

You could try some Vodka. If it doesn't get the stains out, you can at least drown your sorrows in having to bin your expensive tops.
