Bloody Eco Mentalists
Discussion
Theres a group of lentil eaters who've taken over the campus at uni today, trying to brainwash students into all sorts of s
te, recycling, switching to a Prius, save Mr Polar Bear, blah blah blah. Really makes my piss boil, should I tell them I'm planning on getting a V8 Land Rover and start a massive argument?

Really makes my piss boil, should I tell them I'm planning on getting a V8 Land Rover and start a massive argument?I was walking down the street and was accosted by an Eco Mentalist who was campaigning against Nuclear Power. I happened to be on a day off and had loads of time on my hands. Having worked in the Nuclear industry I reckoned I knew more about that facts than she did...

Depends what Uni you're at...
If it's Oxford, then the protesters are likely to have driven to the demo in a V8 landy and just haven't spotted their own irony.
If it's somewhere like Sussex then they will definitely talk you to death about your planet-killing faux pas.
Aberdeen, no idea how they get here. Still fancy an argument, got a lot of anger to vent.If it's Oxford, then the protesters are likely to have driven to the demo in a V8 landy and just haven't spotted their own irony.

Once me and some friends got approached by some 'Save the Lentils' type who was trying to garner support for a protest about the Heathrow expansion. We told her we were in support of the plans and watching her fail to justify her position was very enoyable.
Go tell them how many 'carbon monoxides' you enjoy pumping out per mile and that if you try hard enough you can get single figure MPG. If you're lucky they might even be a BRAKEist! Drop the 0-60 into the conversation too

Fair enough, I can understand them getting on your tits, but a bit of cheecky recycling is hardly a bad thing!? It is possible to be less wasteful without being self righteous about it.
Recycling I can tolerate, but no way should they be trying to brainwash us into buying a Prius. dpbird90 said:

Well, the Prius for a start isn't so great on the eco stakes. Impact of creating new vehicles and energy already expended creating old vehicles vs enviro savings etc.

Really makes my piss boil, should I tell them I'm planning on getting a V8 Land Rover and start a massive argument?I had a local consevative knock on my door at the weekend. I was in the middle of knocking a wall down and fancied a break so told him what I thought of the current crop of Tories , then remembered he was local so told him what I thought about the road system in Reading.
After about 20 mins, when all his other little helpers had moved away up the road, he was squirming to get away.
I quite enjoyed myself, it was a bit like venting on a rant thread here... but in real life.

The first time I met my neighbour he was just pulling into his drive and getting out of his planet saving Prius...and I was just pulling into my drive and getting out of my planet eating V8.
I'm sure I made a good impression.

I had a similar argument with some Greenpeace types at Glastonbury. Apparently being a nuclear physicist makes me biased. I also made an animal rights bloke who was passing out leaflets so angry that he was on the verge of physically assaulting me. The two large coppers nearby luckily kept him in check. A good 30 mins later I think she regretted ever stopping me

Plus the additional fuel costs when it needs to be recovered from a wall.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
