Inspired by the thread about black shirts and deodrant stains I thought someone could help with the following.

I have a reasonably expensive white shirt which I really like. However even after I wash it (using manufacturers recomendations), I find there are still marks left in the collar and cuff area. So far I have not had as much use as I would like of this shirt.

How do I ensure I can get a crisp white shirt similar to the way it looked when it was new?

I have heard if your wash at a higher temperature then you risk the shirt actually shrinking.

Scrub neat Daz or Vanish into the collar and cuffs with a stiff brush immediately before washing.

Have a shower now and again and it won't get grubby in the first place. Or put some of that Vanish liquid in the wash with it. Pink bottle, about 1 litre size iirc. If shirt is 100% cotton it will survive the odd 60 degree wash, even the odd 90. Just make sure there are only whites in it at the same time. My son now has a pink vest courtesy of Mrs Maul smile

Just realise how sad that is. Before I had kids I could barely switch a washing machine on..... oh how sad my life has become

Regardless of the colour, finding a matching collar and cuffs seems to be very rare these days.

I'll second the Vanish thing - but buy a tub of Vanish for whites (it's a white tub as opposed to a pink one for everything else). I've found you don't normally need to scrub any of it into the shirt beforehand because it gets most marks out.
