Why was this ever invented and why do we keep going back and back, even when we lose alot of money? I've been drinking since around 1 PM and thought it would be a bloody good idea to go. Should I have gone? No, I lost - £165 in around 30 minutes. What did I do? Cut my card up in the casino in a fit of radge. Anyone else here go alot? I don't go alot, the odd times. I also never want to go back ever again...

Fancy the casino Si smile

Its all about self control and its a very evil thing when you lose that control.

I consider myself lucky in that casinos and betting in general holds no appeal for me - maybe it's a result of my maths degree but whatever it is I find no excitement in gambling (and yes, I have tried wink), it's just dull for me. So my advice would be to cut your losses, cut up your membership cards and invest in something else instead.

Went to the casino in Nottingham on a stag do recently. Lost £50 in about 15mins playing blackjack and then went £100 up on the poker table over the next hour and a half. I walked out on a net of £1 (I kept a souvenir chip for my collection). It reminded me why I don't play games I don't have an edge on.

If you can't handle losing on a game which has been designed specifically for you to lose on then you shouldn't gamble in casinos. Similarly if a few losses tip you over the edge then casino gambling is a luxury you can't afford.

Me, I'm marginally +VE long term on poker (online and live small stakes) but I just play for fun not for a living.

I'm not really a gambling man to be honest. I've been to one Casino in London and set aside a measly £40 and lost that fairly quickly so didn't gamble again.

Having said that, I will play the slots in Vegas or sit at the Roulette table in order to have myself some cheap drinks. And yes, the drinks are cheap as they only cost tip money and being a cheapskate I only play penny slots so $10 can go a long way and get you alot of alcohol.

Same here and I have been in plenty of casinos, never once left the bar though. Another thing I can't understand is the people who bet on the horses, there used to be an old boy by me who bet (albeit pennies) on horses all day everyday, you'd see him hobble up to the betting shop thing as fast as his legs would carry him to place his 15p bet.

Most bizarre behaviour.

I've been a few times but I think I've wasted enough money there. I'll stick to putting a few quid on at the weekends on insane accumulators at the bookies. If they come up this week, I'll walk away with a few thousand hehe

I went through a little phase a good few years ago when I went with a few mates most nights - just playing even money chances on roulette. Rode my luck somewhat and came out just under £2500 ahead, and haven't been back since.

Until 6 months ago I went at least twice a week. Some weeks I'd be a bag up others I'd be a bag down.

Roulette really can make or break your night, I've had nights where everything I touched turned to gold until I got greedy and placed higher and higher bets.

I haven't been for 6 months now and can't say I'm any worse off.

There's only one winner........

only ever been a few times when on a jaunt around the baltics. started in riga where we went in one to escape the cold and ended up +£150 after half an hour playing blackjack & roulette. our hotel in minsk had a casino attached and I was +£700 one night but I was far too drunk to be sensible and lost it all as the table showed 16 reds in a row. funny how they stopped speaking english when I called shenanigans.

the last night I won enough to cover the cost of the trip and got laughed at lots for being overjoyed at winning a ton on a single spin as the guy opposite made about fifteen grand at the same time. same place had a nightclub attached which made for a fun evening flitting between the two.

wouldn't choose to go in this country but it made for great entertainment there due to the mafia guys wondering what a group of students were doing in belarus and playing 'their' table when the locals were clearly afraid to.

I work in online gambling, so this has kinda put me off ever going to a casino!

As has been previously eluded to, the games are designed for you to lose, so lose you will biggrin

Despite what 90% of long term gamblers say, they are not up overall..

Although I do love online poker, despite the fact I'm very good at going all in at the wrong moment!

I go occasionally with a set limit, say £40, then just enjoy the experience of being there, couple of drinks etc.. Aslong as you are controlled and don't throw your money around you can easily go in spend about £40 and have a good night. Which incidently most people would spend on an average night out anyway, I much prefer sitting in a casino to being in a busy night club where its too loud to talk etc

Then sometimes you win and its a bonus.

Been twice.

1st I went in with £20 and left with about £40

2nd I went in with £40 and came out with £165

Never been back - was a good laugh, but a bit depressing to see all of the miserable looking guys who obviously live in there - casinos on the telly seems glamorous, the two I have been in seemed more like a fancier version of Ladbrokes

I enjoy Casinos but not in the UK.

We usualy go if we're on holiday somewhere - set a limit and a time frame - some you win, some you lose. Reckon I'm about even so far. Good fun though. The missus is scared of anything other than the slots whereas I'm a Roulette man.

Nah me neither, tend to avoid it as a student at the moment, once I'm back in full time education I'll probably make a return, I do enjoy the live poker tournaments, they are definitely good value for money.

The problem isn't the casino. It's your drinking habit. (I assume by drinking you mean alcoholic drinks because I'd been drinking since 9am and then drove to my parents, drank lots more, then drove back. I don't know how many cups of tea I had.) And people like you were the reason casinos were invented.

Ditto. I find it boring and I have a maths degree, too. The only game that you stand any chance of winning money is poker but that is because you play other people, not the house. That said, I still find poker boring. If it's about money (this is one reason I've been told that makes poker exciting and the fact that I play 10p games means I find it boring), then surely you could just place a £1000 bet with a mate on the next car passing by your house being red for excitement - but I'd find it boring, too.

That's my way of looking at it too.
I also enjoy going to watch other people, I find there is such a diverse range of folks visiting. Sometimes I feel for folk losing continually who then visit the cash machine to come back to the table & do it all again. It's amazing & shocking to watch how an addiction takes hold of someone and then they begin to get desperate. I also find it entertaining to watch people "show off" when out in company losing large chunks of money through what appears to be sheer stupidity.

I have a lot of self discipline and have never gone more than £100 down, I only ever play BlackJack. Overall I am undoubtedly down, but I usually enjoy my experience and the odd occasion when you do very well is great fun!

I've been once. Won £30 or so playing Blackjack. Paid for the night out and cab back home, as well as managed to spend some time enjoyably.
