Such threads as "I forgot my boots" etc hehe

OK now, the boots one I can take as, yes, I should have had them, fair enough.

But this mornings escapades have really pissed me off!

I went to check over a piece of equipment before it is shipped over seas. All well and good, couple of bits missing but nothing that can't be sorted before it leaves.

However, when I was there I was called aside to have a look at some other equipment.

The main thing was a panel fascia, with too many holes drilled in it. I took some photos then went back to the office to have a word with my boss to see how to fix things.

Once back we had a look, a lot of swearing etc from my boss as he saw the GA drawing and the photograph (GA contains 3 holes, photo shows 5 actually drilled).

He then pulls up the detailed drawing of the fascia. 5 holes and my name on the bottom. But I can't remember anything about the drawing. I'm short sighted also so could not see the issue date of the drawing. "oh fk" I think, "I'm going to get reamed"

Him: "where the fk did you get that info from?"
Me: "I don't know, can't remember doing this, but I'm hardly likely to just make up the panel am I?"
Him: "oh for fk sake etc etc"
Him: "ok, just go and sort it out!!!"

So I sit back down at my desk and investigate the drawings.

Now bare in mind that we won this contract in December 2009 and only started bidding on it in June 2009.

I open the detailed Drawing and guess what, issue date of 29 July 2008, some fking retard has taken one of my old drawings used for a project nearly 2 years ago and submitted it for manufacture without changing it at all and I'm getting the st for it.

Just spoke to him and guess what he said now he knows it isn't me that fked up?

"oh well, we'll just have to make do with what we have, you sort it out".

fking unbelievable I tell you. I'm sure he hates me.

[/poor rant]

As I later found out, it wasn't my problem as I have had fook all to do with the job, hence needed his input.

But you could have investigated the error, discovered the cause, taken time to consider a remedy and then given him the information in the round.

It seems its standard practice where I work for people to put my initials in the drawn by box, even if the drawing had nothing to do with me. I often have contractors ringing me up enquiring about jobs I havent got the faintest clue about.

Another good one is my boss walking over to my desk first thing in a morning and saying "Have you got that drawing?" Usually its something I worked on 3 years ago..

Happens to me quite a lot. People often speak to me about work and I haven't got the faintest clue what they are on about even if its stuff I have done. confusedwobble

Wear a shorter skirt and longer boots and then he won't hate you so much. Oh and drop lots of pencils when he's around so you can pick them up in front of him.

I was basing my answer on WorAl appealing for help in becoming an exemplary employee with his eye on gaining significant promotion over the next few years.

It's always possible, of course, that you're his 'career aspiration' role model.

I agree it's worth going the extra mile to keep an employer happy - but I think you're asking a bit much of Alan. smile

It's an employers market at the moment. As you say - go that extra mile.

Yeah, get this all the time but in the checked or approved boxes, pisses me right off that does as if something happens with the equipment. i.e. someone dies I could be up in court because I said everything was ok to go ahead with.

Also a good one, but mine used to be at 12.30 on a Friday, when I finished at 1pm and he would ask, can you quickly do this drawing before you leave?

Generally a whole manifold package, which, if rushed would be pushed to get done in under 3 hours. Often if he asked for it earlier I would get it done after staying behind for maybe an hour to find he was away home or to play golf, so would have it until Monday at 10am earliest anyway.

Not sure he'd like to see my big hairy ballsack hanging out the bottom of a short skirt to be honest, but you never know.
