hi all,

I need to post a document tomorrow from manchester to rotterdam which must arrive before 5pm thursday. royal mail obviously can't be trusted and dhl have quoted me a rather steep £57. can anyone recommend an alternative service?

UPS?
We usually find them to be quite quick. Not sure on the prices though...

http://www.interparcel.com/

Around £24 for next day to Europe and it will go UPS if you use "Interparcel Express" so very reliable.

I would, despite being nowhere near as they should be, expect Royal Fail to manage that.

Could you email/fax and send the real version without the deadline?

cheers, I'll give them a call tomorrow.

rm do a next day service but the woman there told me not to rely upon it.
unfortunately they won't accept an email as they need to verify that the docs (university transcript etc) are kosher.

It is a bit 1908s, but we managed for two decades to understand that the fax they've received is a copy of the document that is in transit. They can normally go ahead, pending the real thing.

interparcel are quoting £28 for delivery by noon thursday, cheers Freddy!

only issue is I don't have a collection address in manchester so I'll still need to ring them for a solution.

Don't have a collection address? Well you will need one of those unless UPS will allow you to drop it off at their local depot. Never done it that way myself but I suppose it's possible...

Interparcel are just an internet-based agency (and that part works very well) but they have limited support if you want talk to a human so don't expect to get a sensible answer straight away.

You have to be a bit careful with Interparcel as they for some reason guarantee some of the services that UPS dont offer, their domestic Premium and Standard services are guaranteed next day whereas the UPS standard service which these go by is a 2-3 day service. As far as i know the overseas express is the normal next day service that UPS offer so it will be there by noon

^ I had the address, but thanks anyway.

to make myself look a knob:

interparcel let me book online using my home address, then call back to give them the order no. to cancel the collection and drop off in person. only I neglected to tell them I was booking using my mobile, hence couldn't print the receipt.

I noted the order & tracking nos. and made my way to eccles, only to find those nos. mean nothing to UPS and interparcel were now closed for the day. the chap rang head office to get IP's account details to charge it to, but they wouldn't let him so I had to pay again.

should be able to claim a refund tomorrow. its my own doing and can't fault the service I've had today. I'd definitely recommend IP as they were £14 cheaper than using UPS direct.

crap story I agree but I've spent £75 today including train fares just to post a sodding letter! good job there's an unopened single malt waiting at home to take away the pain.

The thing with Interparcel is that the rate they get from UPS is dependant on the customer printing their own label, we aren't allowed to fill in a manual waybill and charge it to Interparcel like you would a normal account. That was part of the terms of the contract. Also when the shipment is processed the tracking number IP give you can only be tracked on the IP website as it is something that they do for themselves, the actual UPS tracking number is on the label you print (or couldn't print) and can be tracked via UPS as normal. Obviously without being able to see the label you couldn't see the number to give to UPS where they could have printed a barcode for the package
