Was going to say check that your sons calculator gives the result of zero (cheap one often don't), it's mentioned in the link too.
(are kids still encouraged to use calculators at school these days? When I were a lad at primary we had to listen to the radio "I am the operator of my pocket calculator" and punch in the sums called out then hold up the calcutors to the teacher to show we could get the right answer)

tried that, lol, thats how i came to post on here, couple of mates here, mine and 1 of my mates phone calculater says 24, sons calculater and my other mates phone says 0, and to add more confusion its a no calculater paper.(are kids still encouraged to use calculators at school these days? I think were going to tell him to use bidmas when doing the paper, thanks guys.
I think the idea is that you don't use a calculator, thus the result of zero which will confuse some calculators.
To be honest, I never quite understood teacher's obsession with BODMAS at school. I always write things with brackets for clarity and work them out in stages for certainty.

This is algebraic logic - scientific calculators will always do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction whereas non scientific ones don't
Strictly speaking the former is correct and the answer is 0.
It assumes the parentheses are present.
Try it on the windows calculator - the standard one gives 24 but the scientific one gives 0
