Week day letting, anyone know the pitfalls etc?
Discussion
I've been pretending to go back to work for some time now and after two years feel that it's just not going to happen........ (I keep getting the blasted jobs I just don't want to do them
)But I want my own income and I really can't keep sponging off Mr 13th for everything so renting out my two ensuite double bedrooms occurred to me, I can even offer a seperate sitting room and study all two floors away from where myself and Mr13th would be having our evenings, with all the mod cons including pool table

Is this a really stupid idea?
OK I have had my question answered, a good friend just phoned laughing like a drain and pledging everything they own to be witness to my vetting proceedure...............the second they hicupped and snorted their way through the words "guest house landlady" I realised that this plan wasn't going to work.
Back to the drawing board! and all this started over a bag of onions!!!!!! .......... my life, you couldn't make it up

I don't think it's a daft idea, however you are limiting your potential market by specifying week days only.
I'd contact the HR departments of big local companies with an ad for noticeboards / intranets. Someone might be commuting or staying in a hotel.
Alternatively if you're anywhere near a hospital, advertise there. You may well have the odd weekend to yourself if you can find someone who works shifts.

sday2, they could have another access but all the bedrooms are on the same floor so it would be very much a share of the house, although with the seperate sitting room and study on the top floor it shouldn't be too intrusive. OMG do I have to do their laundry!!!! ?
A K if I organise it well I can legally avoid VAT and income tax. I know, my talents are wasted !!
I really had shelved the idea but got a call earlier from a chap I worked for a few weeks ago and it brought back the crashing boredom and general feeling of losing the will to live. I'm very, very lucky that working from 16 and after 24 years I don't have to do that but I really ought to do something. I'm not the least artistic, only I can take the most beautiful bunch of flowers and make them look dreadful, so the florist option is closed to me
I did toy with writing but I left school at 15 with limited English skills and the pieces I wrote which I thought were hilarious were all turned down..ie., I didn't hear anything back!! Still make me smile though.
Oh NO here I go heading in to my 3rd midlife crises; I had my first at 28......... in somethings I was way ahead of the pack! LOL

Contractors would want a VAT receipt to be able to claim their expenses though...
Ah I see! I wouldn't be VAT registered but I could of course supply a non VAT invoice/receipt which would be sufficient for someone to claim on their expenses, wouldn't it?Two years out of the workplace and I have mush for brains

I would have to declare the earnings such as they would be but as it would be my only form of income I could offset the figure quite easily. I certainly wouldn't be playing games with the VAT man or income tax, just not worth it for the figures involved and so would make sure I was 100% above board (please excuse the weak but deliberate pun)

I wasn't suggesting you wouldn't be above board - hope it didn't come over that way!!!Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
