Right, my degree certificate has the name on it that I go by in day to day life, but my passport and birth certificate etc have the same names, but in a different order (i.e. my 1st and 3rd name swap places).

Don't ask me why I didn't get my truly 'official' name on my degree in the first place, because its already happened and now the time has come that I need to prove that my degree actually belongs to me.

My university refuses to reprint the degree with an altered name and I was just wondering what other options I have? Is there any sort of ombudsman I can contact to basically force them to reprint it? Or do I have to go through life explaining why my degree name is different and hoping that people will accept my explanation?

Anyone got any advice?

Cheers

Only if you're Scottish.

I don't think anyone has ever asked for my certificate! It seems from 'the Apprentice' that people can dig up your uni history if they want, so don't fret.

It depends what career you go into- but degree certificates are often asked for in my field.

It was a rather stupid thing to do really.

Just explain what you did to the person who wants to see your degree?

ETA - I assume you wrote and asked your Uni to change the name so just provide a copy of the communications as well?

I'd try to get someone to write a "to whom it may concern" letter to confirm that you have been known by both names for x many years and then send it along with your documentation. Ideally a solicitor, bank manager, GP or someone "of standing". I did it for a friend of mine who used both his chinese name and an English version of his name.

Is it actually an issue at all? Has someone said "that's not your degree certificate"?

\

ISO and BS certification often requires that the formal qualifications of employees are verified.

Why does it matter. Many people have degree certificates in thier maiden surname and have had married names etc. As long as you can provide other examples of your mixed names it should be fine surely? Or a letter from notary public perhaps? Take the certificate along with other proofs of ID, communications from the university and ask a Notary Public to verify it.

Is this for Korea mate?
You can get an official letter from your uni explaining that you are the person who did the degree, your dates at uni etc. Just get it officially stamped, on letter headed paper and signed - usual stuff for the Korean embassy smile

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear, nice one. When I rang the visa office the lady told me it was up to the school if they were bothered or not. Recruiters told me it was up to the visa office confused

Standard process for Korea mate. One leg doesn't know what the other wants to do wink
I read that a letter from the uni confirming the difference between the two names and that you are still the person who did the degree should be fine.
Interview season started last week too so hopefully we'll get something soon hehe
