I'm crossing the old Severn bridge, glance to my left, and see a parachute ? I'm thinking to myself "where the hell did he come from ?" Moments later, his mate, who I've just spotted, chucks himself off as well !
They must have climbed up there ilegally ? I can't see anyone being given permission to do this hehe
They must have titanium bks !

Nutters.

It does bring a question to mind though. What law would make it illegal to climb? They're just using the bridge same as a motorist i.e. pubic access and obviously not going equipped to cause damage.

It wasn't the bridge, they jumped off the electricity pylon to the side of it ! They are unusually tall pylons, presumably that was the attraction ?

I suspect the fact that they jumped off the pylon makes it trespass? Not sure where you imagined the bridge from??

BASE jumpers. Something I've always wanted to get into - ever since I saw a guy jump the Angel Falls.

They were doing the base jumping nutter stuff from one of the high rock/mountain hingies that litter the area in Rio. Absolute mentalalists.

Mind you, my wife and I jumped off the same platform with an instructor and his 2 man hang glider. That was pretty good fun, flying high over tower blocks then out to sea, landing on the beach..

To be a 'real' BASE jumper, they need to do one of each AFAIK: Building, Antenna, (bridge)Span & Earth. The guys you saw must have thought the usual BASE criteria weren't nearly man-enough and decided to throw HT electricity into the mix.

There's an excellent book called 'Groundrush' by Simon Jakeman who was one of the original nutters BASE jumpers in the UK. During an epic parachute club pissup they decided to go and leap off Cheddar Gorge the next morning. He did the Barbican in London as well, before chucking yourself off buildings became more fashionable.

I've got an old VHS BASE video somewhere with some complete loons going off the top of a TV transmitter somewhere. They didn't hang about too much before jumping as their fillings were starting to heat up the higher they climbed towards the UHF radiator at the top.

Dutch Guy that use to work with us used to do with his missus and friends it till he became a dad. Showed us some videos he's taken and scary stuff. When ever there was a shutdown and he was up the flare tower we were expecting to see him jump off. He never did but would have loved to see it.

Yes, an unusually short pylon would not give the jumper enough time to deploy the parachute. silly

Utilities stuff is usually covered by byelaws, as well as trespass.

hehe I guessed that much.
I seem to remember something about them being the tallest in the UK or something, and wondered if it was ticking a box for them ?

What a rush, free climbing is much fun, as is TV.

You're scared of heights aren't you smile

It's gotta be from at least 12,000 ft.
