Oh really? Well I've been listening to the Floyd quite a lot lately and this is really starting to bug me...

We don't need no education? It's a double negative FFS, it follows that you must need some education if you don't need nun! (sic)

Must be my age, but the irony of the ultimate anti-education song proving that you need it isn't lost on me.

Just had to get that off my chest... wink

Mods, it's NOT a music post, it's a grammar one...

It may provide short term aural satisfaction, but the fact remains it is grammatically incorrect. "Digging around on a piece of ground in your home town" however is both grammatically correct and still sounds good biggrin

Maybe it's ironic? Maybe it's how kids spoke when he was young, and as it is the song of a 'child' then that is the point? wink

Perhaps it means that the kind of education we need isn't the kind of st that is prescribed to the kids of today and even back in 1979?

Great song. The perfect song for sitting on the M25 in yet another jam wondering why you do this every day. Drop the roof, turn it up to 11, sit back, relax and dream of something different.

Still one of the best albums ever, though it's fair to say that Mr Waters has never seemed to outgrow his 'issues'.

It's a little ironic considering that Pink Floyd met at university.

What's even more ironic is the line itself is meant to be ironic... rolleyes

Anyway, with music like that, performed by off-the-scale proper petrol-heads like Nick Mason, who gives a stuff biggrin

The double negative is intended saying that the kids do require education. Its humorous play on words.

A double positive can also be a negative.

Yeah, right!

I must have been about nine when that came out, I remember at the time thinking, actually I think you probably do.
