We are currently having some light building work done / having a general clean up so I hired a skip for 2 weeks to get rid of the waste. Got it dropped on my drive last week and started to load it up.
Woke up yesterday morning, looked out of the bedroom window and there is 2 blokes. One in the skip rummaging around, the other leaning on the side having a cigarette.
I went outside and approached them. They replied with "we're just getting this scrap out of here". I told them that it wasn't scrap and to get out of the skip. One of them got a bit lippy and I told him I would have let them have it if they had asked first, which they didn't seem to like. As he walked away I glanced onto the back of their (sorry excuse for a) pick-up truck. There was a bench and a few steel bars from the skip. I told them to put it back and they just said "we might bring it back next week mate".
Without being too petty, it was rubbish that I wanted rid of but to come onto somebody elses property like that is out of order. First, rummaging round the skip, next, maybe notice the alloys on the car. Really annoyed me.
Anyway, not really sure where this is going. Just needed to vent my annoyance...

It is obviously me just being uncomfortable with other people snooping around my house at odd times without me know. Part of me knows that if they had gone round the back where the actual building material is, they would have taken that too.
Chill Winston. They're not interested in actually robbing you, but see the contents of your skip as fair game.Cock Womble 7 said:
Frankly, I don't see a problem.
Finding it hard to see what you're annoyed about. You wanted to get rid of it. They're going to use it (or maybe they'll ebay it? so what?). I left two old armchairs on my drive and asked the council to take them. If some pikey took them, I really don't care. I'd prefer it if they were actually used - even if they fixed them and sold them for £100 each, I don't care.

We live out on our own. I found pikeys rummaging thorugh our sheds recently - not locked as nothing of value in there. I challenged them and told them politely as I could to foxtrot oscar - not sensible as it was late and I was home alone.
We've been had 3 times. I don't know what I will do if I find them in the house. I have to protect my babies but I won't give up without a fight.

I don't think pikeys eat babies anymore. And you're not allowed to list them on ebay anyway. We've been had 3 times. I don't know what I will do if I find them in the house. I have to protect my babies but I won't give up without a fight.

This is completely different and I understand why you would be annoyed. We've been had 3 times. I don't know what I will do if I find them in the house. I have to protect my babies but I won't give up without a fight.

Wading thro the skip is just an excuse so they can look for better stuff to nick, adn if gets them some scrap at the same time, so much the better.

Now as it happens, my views on gypsies are about the same as Hitler's.
However I think the OP is being pretty petty and asking for trouble really. You leave stuff in a skip and it's fair game.
I suppose the key issue here is the positioning of the skip, i.e if it was on a drive by the road fair enough, if they had to wander around your property to find it then of course wrong. Also it's a bit out of order if they make a mess but that's not usually the case IME.
