Not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes. If your company spends time and money to recycle paper, cardboard, plastics, etc. What would they think if it all ended up on a landfill site? This is what I witnessed today. A private waste collection firm tipping recycle bins in with the normal waste. So should I grass them up or keep my nose out?

By any chance, does the 'Waste Disposal' company's name sound like Rita?

No secret I am afraid, many local authority domestic contractors do exactly the same with the full knowledge of the Councils. The question to be asked is why do the Councils persecute/fine people to seperate and recycle when they (the Council) know it just get landfilled.

The whole business is a con - we have a massive lorry crawling around the estate for an hour, with four blokes on it, picking up the odd box that's been put out for them - the emissions and diesel used in that must far out weigh the recyclable value.

What is the economic value of an empty juice carton and how many would I have to take a mile to the tip for it to make any economic sense???

Add to that the cost of endless wheelie bins provided to each house, the cost of all the recycling officers employed by each Council etc etc and the con grows in stature.

Recycling in principle is sensible but unfortunately the system adopted in the UK, much like windfarms, is propaganda based not fact/reality based ...

We recently had a letter at work of our bin collection company saying they would be dropping a new bin for cardboard and paper and that we must seperate these from everything else, so we then spent the following two weeks making sure it was all done as per the letter until friday bin collection day came and we watched as the bin men picked up both bins and emptied them into the same truck!

After asking them they said it didn't matter about sorting as it was all done back at there yard!

What a waste of time

If it made economic sense to just keep dumping it in the ground would that be better?

I'm no fan of the global warming stuff we get rammed down our necks, but recycling actually makes some sense, even if not for economic purposes. There is only so much litter you can put back into a landfill site. It makes sense to make use of it again if possible.

Have said this before.

I went to the local tip a while ago where everything has to be separated. It basically has one long wall ( apart from a few containers etc ) which is split up into sections and you chuck your rubbish over the corresponding section marked on the wall.

Having been the last to leave on this occasion, I peered through the plastic curtain that covered the throwing area to see a digger start at one end and push the whole bloody lot of rubbish into one massive pile in the corner of the warehouse.

It's a pointless exercise to subdue those who believe their doing their bit.

They bloody well ought to be - and if not then I'm going to sign up as a conspiracy theorist.
