Just wondering if the people who sell this magazine are homeless and need help from the revenue the magazine brings in or if they are just charitable people who offer their spare time to stand around in our towns and city centres selling? My reason for asking is today while walking through my local town centre a big issue seller tried to force a copy onto me as I walked past, I politely said "no thanks" to which she said ok and smiled at me, enabling me to see at least 2 gold teeth shining in her mouth!

I believe they used to be homeless or are currently homeless.

They tend to have been homeless, but now have their own flat/pad but need the income to get by (or from any I have spoke to)

Last week when I was at a bar, a Romanian(?) woman came begging with a cup to all the smokers outside. When she shook her cup at me and said, "pleeease" I saw that nearly all her teeth were gold!!

It's a scam. At the end of a shift, they take off their "tramp suit", climb into their RS6 and drive back to their swanky Docklands apartment - all the while laughing at their gullible victims.

didn't you know that under new labour there are homeless targets to meet and in order to do so we are now importing homeless promotion operatives.

has no one noticed that the big issue sellers used to be the neds (chavs) of the town but now they are mostly forginers (is that how you spell that?) even the chavs have realised that its SO uncool to sell the magazine!!

Has anyone actually bought a Big Issue before? What sort of articles are in it?

It's a cross between the NME and Private Eye. For divs.

Vendors must adhere to a code of conduct whilst selling the magazine
yeah right, did they give a toss when we called them to get one of their smack head vendors moved when he passed out wasted outside my shop where he didnt have permission to be in the first place? Dd they hell. Most big issue sellers are junkies or drunks anyway, plus you have the romanian ones who are usually all part of a gang and in my experience are all thieving rats.

I honestly don't know anybody who buys the Big Issue. Certainly does make me wonder who's buying all the copies to fund the mag.

I don't know if the guy is homeless or not but in Hanley (Stoke) their is always a guy out selling the Big Issue. A funny guy when you speak to him and even when just walking past he is always dancing and singing making people laugh.

He does not ask people to buy the magazine, people go and buy from him because of the smiles he gives to people walking by! He used to have a dog which sat behind him next to boots but I never see it now so I can only guess its been taken away or died.
