You may have seen my other thread about a Eulogy for a friend.
He passed away about 10 days ago after going into hospital with Pneumonia.
He suffered from the age of 7 with muscular dystrophy & was in a wheel-chair from the age of 13.
He passed away @ the young age of 23.
We'd like to do something to raise awareness & some money towards the muscular dystrophy charity.
Due to his condition he was unable to do many charity events to raise awareness & money & we'd like to do it for him & the charity in memory of him.
He was a petrol-head through & through & a bit of an adrenaline junkie, ploughing all his spare money into his Nissan Silvia.
He even wants some of his ashes to be made into a part for his car - typical!
So,
I was wandering if anyone had any ideas on what we could do in the way of an event to raise some sponsorship for his chosen charity.
The standard parachute jump & london marathon have been suggested, but due to the next marathon being miles away & parachute jumps being quite expensive for what they are we're looking into other ideas.
Ideally, it can't cost a fortune to take part for a group of people & it needs to be relatively exciting / something you'd want to sponsor a group of people for & if possible involve cars.
Any suggestions greatly welcomed!

Something to do with heights? Like bungee jumping or abseiling/decending the buildings?

Do a car/quod/bike race if you fancy it.

My partner and some friends did a charity bike ride last year for MD, the friends all work at Tesco and it was their charity of the year.

They did Withernsea to Southport (coast to coast), started on the Friday morning and finished sunday afternoon.

Does anyone know of any cheap banger rallies to enter that are good.
Maybe lasting a 7-10days at the most?

Track day with charity passenger rides... £10/20 a ride.
Lots of drivers will be happy to pay for the day, and get an agreement with the track day organiser to take passengers out... It can be done..

Drive his old car on some sort of European road rally, possibly with some sponsorship.

Arrange the first assault on the North Face of the High Street.
  • Full climbing gear - boots, crampons, ropes, ice axes, beany hats, etc.
  • Set up base camp[ at the HSBC
  • 'Climb' along the High Street, using lamp posts as tying off points, etc.
  • Dress your dog up as a St Bernard. Have volunteer sherpas (standing) to do the direct begging, and sprinkle snow (flour)
  • Arrange an interview with the local press & websites (remember to shout through the blizzard)
  • Diversions through sponsoring shops - clothes racks can be particularly problematic
  • Plant your flag at the summmit (preferably a pub garden)
Plan a route, get support from the shops, do it at the weekend, and you'd be surprised how effective it can be.
