Scotland is full of Labour/Nationalist voting mouthbreathers.

I can't wait to leave.

You're on a TRAIN, for probably quite a few hours. I'd be seeing it as anaesthaesia, not drinking.

We always used to take a sleeper where possible.

What's most odd is it's not Tennents they're drinking.

Scots use "events" as an excuse to drink.

Old Firm match - Get the beers out

World cup even though we're not in it - Get the beers out

Sunny day - Get the beers out

Going anywhere outside a 10 mile radius of where you live - Get the beers out

See my last example as to why your carrage is full of people drinking at 8am.

In all fairness, I have been witness to similar behaviour on English trains.

Granted, perhaps not as frequently, but it's there nonetheless.

FWIW, you should try getting the bus through Govan at 0730 - 0800 on a weekday to go to work. It's, umm, 'special'!

I don't see the problem with it, I've been drunk by 8 in the morning on more than 1 occasion. If I'm going to spend a day travelling & not driving it helps pass the time. Don't buy into the whole "It's too early to drink" thing, as long as it's not going to stop you doing things you need to do who gives a fk?

Anyone else wondering why Tonks is down the back of the train mixing with the hoi polloi? Poor show old chap, have a wander up front, you may find the breakfast tipple changes to Sauvignon Blanc instead of Tennants Super.

Also, is your mrs used to you tapping away on your Blueberry talking to your internet friends whilst you're supposed to be holding a decent conversation? scratchchin

I've travelled the kings cross to Inverness direct fairly often and never seen anyone drinking. If you book 4 weeks in advance you can get first class direct return for about £130. Bargain. Cheaper and more comfortable than flying and much less faffing about. One trip I was the only person in the entire carriage for hours. Utter bliss.

Is it more unacceptable because it's a train?

Whenever I've flown anywhere with work and got into one of the lounges it's very much beer o'clock no matter what time it is.... and I am never the only one!

With all the destinations in the world I suppose in an airport it's an acceptable drinking time somewhere!

Went to Budapest a couple of weeks ago, the number of people walking around drinking cans of beer in the street was staggering.
Not trampy types either, just normal folk some of whom looked like they were on their way to work! eek

tonker you just need to appreciate the life and attitudes of the people..... us highlanders (and I note the celtic reference as i'd contend it apply in ireland and westerly wales etc...). just have a different mindset.

they're off on a trip... maybe they're having a break having spent days in the freezing cold working on a fishfarm or other crap low paid rural economy work. maybe it is just a wee sesh....that might have started the night or day before...

i'd guess they weren't proffering spiteful comments as per LHD above?

we used to start beers at 6:30 on trips to wembely... but that is a different matter smile
