Americans don't get irony

I know the following (very funny) youtube video has been around a while, but someone pointed out to me that so many of the 'comments' are from people who think it's real. There are some real thick people in the world. Far be it for me to generalise, but many Americans struggle with getting 'irony' so I'm guessing that explains some of the comments.
