Leighton Buzzard.....
Discussion
Depends what you're looking for in a town really. I lived there for a few months, but didn't spend a lot of time in the town. I'm told the canal is nice but never went. There are a few shops, supermarkets and a couple of pubs, so it's livable but I wouldn't move back in a hurry.
If you're driving there from the M1 use J12 not J11, as Dunstable is a nightmare to get through with 30mph limits and a lot of speed cameras.

Leighton Buzzard is ideal if your settled i.e married poss kids schools are good crime is low and everybody kinda knows everyone else. Hold fetes etc in town centre, you can walk or cycle to the shops dont have to be stuck in a car nice local pubs. Down side if your single no real clubs you see the same faces every week and not much going on but as with anything you get out what you put in. Generally a nice clean town with Woburn up the road.
I grew up in Leighton Buzzard, although I moved as soon as I got a proper job. Mum & Dad still live there.
It's OK. A typical commuter town, so a lot of people get up and bugger off to London in the morning. Good transport links, crap shopping centre (slowly dieing like so many others) but reasonably picturesque high street and a couple of big supermarkets (Tesco, Waitrose). Near to Milton Keynes for proper shopping, snowdome etc, and about 20 minutes from the M1.
M&D live in Linslade (north of the Grand Union Canal) and I'd advise Linslade, Heath and Reach or some of the villages on the outskirts (Billington, Wing) rather than the centre of town.
Nightlife is basically pubs and kebabs, and the trouble you get (at least as far as I'm aware) is commensurate with a home counties market town of its size.
Schools are great. There are two upper schools, one in Leighton and one in Linslade. I went to Cedars in Linslade which has a great reputation, and terrific sporting facilities, if that's important.
