By they, I have to make clear that I mean the Police. It is almost three years since she vanished and reports in the media seem to suggest that the British and Portugese police are no longer actively looking for the girl.

I know that the parents have become very media savvy but is does seem odd that no review has taken place or that leads uncovered by private investigators have notbeen followed up.

Sadly, so many people go missing each year the police simply do not have the resources to find them all.

Ben Needham would be 21 this year. Sometimes people just cannot give-up hope.

They should have pulled all resources 2 years ago. If the media hadn't been involved it would have.

Just think how many others could be safe at home in this pefiod, that did have a reasonable lead if it wasn't for putting so many resources into this.

Yes.

Aside from the oddness of the case, it has been dragged out by the media.

Time to put it to bed (and stay in the apartment this time).

I would never give up looking for either of my kids if they went missing, would you? I would think that letting go is a very hard thing to do.

The police should rest on this one (until anything new comes to light), but the parents never will.

There's not much more they can do if there's no fresh leads.

Parents will never give up - it's their child afterall.

Easy for someone outside of the McCanns to say that enough is enough now.

From their point of view, they'll probably never give up or forget, at least until that have an answer or closure, whatever the news.

But from a lost person case, it should have been closed a long time ago. If it has of been a working class family, they would have had their week of media frenzy, been slated for being so irresponsible and it would have been long forgotten about. Sad but true. And barring any catastrophic family breakdowns they would have been back at work continuing their life by now.

Hundreds of kids go missing every year. None of them seem to get the exposure and resources that this case has and still is.

They're not going to give up, if they give up then no more Missing Fund. It's why they won't allow anyone to dare suggest the girl is dead.

Are people still paying into their fund to allow them to play up to the media still when there is so many more missing people out there that the fund could maybe help find?

Interesting.

By condemning the authorities for giving up the search so publicly, does it divert suspicion away from the McCanns themselves, or is it a clever double-bluff?

The fund accounts show a turnover of £1.8million for the end of 2008 and £629k in 2009 with a loss of £345k. They've got £690k in 'Shareholder Funds'

Same as has been said, Chrildren go missing each year and if their lucky they'll get an article in the newspaper or on the wall of Tesco asking if they've been seen.. This one has gone mad for some reason.

I'm not sure about the parents to be honest..

Is this case particularly odd? I think its more to do with the McCanns being fairly well off and being able to push the story through the media so much. If the reports coming through the papers today is anything to go by its irrational for them to think the police should still be looking. So I think its just for publicity, fair enough though. Granted I couldnt even imagine being in there situation and anyone in that situation would be doing everything they could.

I think they've done all they can given the huge mess made of the investigation. Sounds cruel, but I suspect she will turn up naturally during the course of some building work in Portugal in a few years.

It's a very sad tale, and I have my own personal views of what transpired. But serficed (sp?) to say that the chances of finding her at all are so close to zero it might as well be.

She was a beautiful little kid too frown

Are they making it a mess, and making it look like others aren't doing things properly to cover their own mistake of leaving them alone in the building?

The publicity is odd, but you can't fault them for doing everything in their powers to find their little girl. What is more odd is the behaviour of the parents themselves. My own opinion is that there is alot more to this case than anyone knows apart from Gerry and Kate McGann.
