Hello all,

yes, it sounds funny but she's run up thousands of pounds by constantly ringing 123 to "talk to the man there" (im laughing a bit as i'm typing!)

We need to either stop her dialing it somehow or block it (BT say not possible) She lives alone aond does need a phone so removing it isnt an option.

Otherwise is there some sort of clause for a bulk buy discount!!!

There are ways of doing it, none of them are simple though.

Get her a phone with speed dial, put all the numbers she needs on 1,2,4,5,6 etc and then rip out the number 3, simples

If shes lonely, then maybe get her a laptop and introduce her too, forums, chatrooms, facebook, skype etc

Or you could get her to be one of them dirty phone women, then she could earn a bit of money on the side too.

BT website suggests you can bar all calls to premium rate numbers from a landline (which I assume the talking clock is?):

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/847...

How do I bar outgoing calls with Call Barring?
To bar calls from your phone press the star key (*) on your telephone keypad followed by the number 34, the relevant code and then the hash key (#).

You'll hear a confirmation announcement telling you that call barring is now active.

What Call Barring codes are available?
Examples of Call Barring codes
'1' - Bars almost all calls except 999. Cancelling this option also cancels any other options you’ve barred
'2' - Bars national and international calls and calls to mobiles
'3' - Bars international calls
'4' - Bars all operator calls, BT Text (SMS text messages) and BT Text Direct 18001 & 18002.
'5' - Bars calls to manage your Calling Features.
'7' - Bars calls to premium rate numbers.
So for example, to bar international calls from your line, you would dial *343#.

Note: There are more Call Barring codes available including national, international and mobile calls. To find out more about these codes so that you can bar the calls you want to, call the information line on Freefone 0800 789 456.

She sounds like she may have been neglected by her nephew and has no-one else to talk too!

Only kidding, the best thing to do is to call BT and DO NOT press any numbers etc in the holding menu's. This will fool the computer into thinking that you don't have a touchtone phone and will get you through to an operator much quicker who will then put you through to the right place.

Getting her Ex-Directory will also be a good idea to stop the tele-sales reps selling her st, they prey on the old and slightly mad!
