It's a tad like going to the cinema with a bag of popcorn and sitting down to watch a good film - or sitting down to await the results of a good thread on PH.

you have been here 35 months and yet you fail to understand something as simple as this?

I'm lost for words, which, incidentally, means I can't think of any words suitable to describe how odd I think you are.

It is used to indicate that the user thinks that the particular thread will run and run and be subject to a veritable cornucopia of various replies/points of view/opinions - mainly because the chosen subject is somewhat controversial.

It suggests that the person who posts the popcorn "smiley" will sit back and enjoy the to-ing and fro-ing of the subsequent discussion with some relish - without actually adding anything to the thread.

It's a bit sad, to be honest.

A typical example would be when a new poster appears, named K1mmie92, posts a picture of a pink Ford Ka, and asks the best way to get into modelling.

You know it's going to go off big style, 3 people will be banned, someone will find a facebook picture, and sex toys will be photoshopped.

This process takes roughly 6 minutes, and is not unlike feeding time at the chimp enclosure.

Yeah, basically it means the OP has said something incredibly stupid (or even just mildly stupid) and is going to be properly ridiculed for it by the masses.

It's used by the forum plankton to indicate their lack of cognitive ability.
