The annual City Beers 'pre-Le Mans' drinks - 27 May 2010

Second only to the Christmas bash, May's City Beers has to be one of the year's social highlights for PHers living/working within travelling distance of London.
On the last Thursday of every month, at Dirty Dicks pub, PHers travel from far and wide to raise a glass or two and partake in a little banter without fear of a spell in the sinbin. But these meetings are mere 'practice' for the May event: the official pre-Le Mans Drinks.
It's widely known that a large number of PHers make the annual pilgrimage to Le Mans for the 24hour racing. Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to join them out there, so the annual 'pre-Le Mans' drinks have grown into something of a cult event, for all PHers to wish our road warriors well as they prepare to make steady progress towards the les rues et les boulevards de Sarthe.
So, whether a trip out to Le Mans is a reality for you this year or remains on your 'things to do' list, getting yourself along to the pre-Le Mans drinks is an essential date for your diary.
But the special nature of this annual event doesn't stop at the theme for the festivities. It also means that we make our occasional stray away from Dirty Dicks and take a short walk along Bishopsgate to The Light Bar in Shoreditch High Street. The Light Bar was the location for the first ever 'pre-Le Mans' drinks and remains its spiritual (in so many ways) home. For those not familiar with the area, it really is just a couple of hundred yards from Liverpool St - no danger of not finding it.
So, if you're:
1. Going to Le Mans, or
2. Not going to Le Mans, and
3. Are a Dirty Dicks regular, or
4. Have been promising yourself a trip into town to enjoy an evening with fellow PHers
this really should be the event you make the effort to get yourself along to.
And if you've never met a PHer in real life before, don't worry, as we'll make sure you find us and don't spend the evening asking strange men if they're looking to meet guys from the internet.
I've started the thread earlier in the month than usual, so you can arrange days off from work, or overnight accommodation in plenty of time. (Even Garlick and Stuart have enough time to sort their diaries for this one!)
