I have a couple of pairs of Oliver Sweeney's and want to keep them in top shape.

So far I've been using a neutral shoe cream - is there any point/benefit in using a coloured product from day one?

Seems a bit like the equivelent of those Turtle Wax polished that might be alright on old faded paint but pointless on brand new paint?

(apologies if it sounds a bit anal but whilst there's better out there they are decent shoes)

If they're tan or medium brown, a coloured polish will make the leather darker over time.

I use a neutral cream (Autoglym leather conditioner as it so happens) on my brown shoes, and old-fashioned black polish on my black shoes to cover scuffs and keep the heels and sole edges looking new.

Have a few pairs myself and find the most important thing is a good pair of shoe trees.

What colour are they?
Colour aside as Neil says get some shoe trees.
Also don't wear them 2 consecutive days.
I think it was LC1? Who was a shoe repair bloke who gave shoe advice?

^^^ yep- shoe trees are key in my eyes too. Over the past 3 years I've built up 5 pairs I wear throughout the working week (3 x Church's, 2 x Trickers ) and all, save for sole repairs, are in great condition because of the trees and a nice polish every now and again.

I was told a while ago that untreated wooden shoe trees are the best as the untreated wood draws moisture from the shoes (basically, sweat) as well as helping the shoe keep its shape.
