Just about to embark on my first GCSE tomorrow, so until the 24th of June my life will be complete hell smile

Anyone else starting their GCSE's or already started them?

Anyone have any final words of wisdom?

Cheers,

Sneakers

Don't think it's big and clever to not revise.

Don't worry - they get easier every year. It follows that just remembering to turn up and being able to write your name should guarantee you an A*.

wink

Don't stress about it - they're never as bad as you build them up to be in your mind.

Agreed, dont wind yourself up, if you finish early than the alloted time check and double check

Make sure you READ the question, we always used to have people failing when it said answer ONE question, they would try and answer all 3 on a paper and fk it up

But the main thing is don't stress, chances are you know the stuff without actually realising it, get them done, get enough grades for the course you want at college and go and have some fun biggrin

Good Luck my OH little sister starts hers this week too

Good luck, I'm sitting my final MSc exams at uni currently.

- As mentioned show your working out when doing questions that have a formula.
- Always stay in the full time. Either check over your work, or if it's something you don't know then you'll probably have bits of information that come back to you near the end, even if you sit there for 10min doing nothing.
- Teachers always mention it, but answer the question given, don't just put down all the information you know about that subject. Unless you're not sure of the answer and then do that, you'll pick up bits of marks, which might make the difference in your grade.
- Try and keep normal pattern going for sleeping etc. No point in revising till 7am if you're too tired to remember anything in the exam!

Just smile knowing that in 10 years' time, the questions you're answering will appear on someone's A-level paper. </bhy>

Thanks for the encouragement and tips biggrin

I have Learning for Life and Work first thing in the morning tomorrow, which lasts a whole 45 minutes laugh

The LLW past papers we got are ridiculously easy so hopefully it will just break me gently into the exam regime...

And in the same vein, there's a school of thought that says you may as well not bother at all because even if you get 15 A*s, there will be a load of old gits like me (I was in the first year to sit GCSEs) who will tell you that your grades are worthless and you wouldn't have even scraped Es if you had sat them in our day.....

They are simply to get you into college, after that assuming you get a-c in the core subjects they will not be looked at again (unless you're going for a very high brow grad scheme in baking or law etc). I picked the easiest ones knowing that this was the case biggrin As did a mate of mine who infact is now on the grad scheme of a high brow grad scheme smile

Last minute cramming really does work, go over your notes the night before & morning of the exam so that it's as fresh as possible.

Don't worry about them too much, if you panic your brain doesn't work as well so before you start just relax & spend a short while taking some deep breaths & answer the questions as well as you can. The same applies for when your brain suddenly goes blank as it will at some point, just relax & it'll kick in again soon

Easy

Well in the particular area of Northern Ireland where I live, we do things a bit differently. When I was in 3rd year (14 years old) I had to sit exams to determine whether I got into a grammar school or a technical college... I was ranked 4th in that particular year of 136 so I qualified for the grammar school. If I get good enough grades in my GCSE's we stay on at this school until we are 19 and do our AS Levels and A2 Levels here with a view to going to University after.

So these exams determine whether or not I stay at this school or go to do a different course and not do A-Levels

Type out loads of equations in size 4 font and tape then into the inside of your calculator cover.

It's amazing what you can cram onto a bit of paper the size of a post-it note biggrin

This is exactly it, your College and Uni quals are the ones that will really matter in the long run

In fact 15 years on (god I feel old now) my CV just lists 8 GCSE's grade A-C, no more detail is given and I have never been asked
