One of the girls on our desk was asked out this morning by a quant.

He sent her an e-mail.

I said "Oh. You must know him quite well then?"

She replied "I've never spoken to him in my life, but I did smile at him yesterday"

Nice work! A case of "What He giveth with one hand, He taketh away with the other".

You mean;

teat, pap, nipple, mammilla, mamilla, boob, bosom, breast, knocker, titty?

Then yes! But only in written form.

I love this site. Strangely compelling when done in huge scale projected onto a wall. See also www.wordle.net. Good fun, but also makes a fantastic frontispiece to a document, as it does exactly the same job as a Management Summary biggrin

I think he is, so I'll attempt to translate.

Quant is short for Quantitive Analyst. Usually exceptionally bright people with a maths/logic talent. They are often very dull, too.

This girl received an email out-of-the-blue from a chap asking her out. The OP assumed that such an approach would necessarily be made after the two of them had at least spoken. She replied in the negative and that she'd merely shown him the simple courtesy of smiling when they passed each other. The nerd saw this as a sufficient "signal" to warrant an impersonal approach to a personal matter.

Therefore, whilst he is obviously very bright and probably quite wealthy (giveth) he has no social skills especially with members of the opposite sex. (taketh away).
