Further to what I posted earlier in the chav babies thread, I got thinking...

Basically we are not classless in this country, there are actually two classes;

Normal, decent folk and chavs!

But part of the problem where I live, where there is a divide of normal and chav populations, is that the majority of normal, decent people do not want to stand up and be counted, they'd rather let the chavs run riot than stick their own neck out and object.

Now I'm not talking stand up and fight them here, more be prepared to be counted as an objector; complain to the police, the council, or even the chavs themselves (though this one is likely to end in said fight wink)

It seems like there are few of us who willing to speak to the police and make official complaints about anti-social or disruptive behaviour, most will close their curtains, turn up the TV and hope it's not their property being damaged. But why? Surely there are still more of us than them?

Conversely, the chavs seem to have no problem in banding together; try having words with one of them and see how many turn up at your door!

Apathy. Too many people moan about "chavs" but won't do anything about them.
Hence "chavs" get away with "it".

A bit like fuel pricing really...

I live in a middle class enclave.

Dentist on one side, architect over the road and a QC on the other side.

Problem solved.

I wondered what that smell was...

Thought it was just some dead fish on the beach.

Yes, always stand up and be counted. Give in to the chavs?! Hell, no. Never!

Exactly right!

Myself and a few friends are happy to do something about it, collect photographic evidence of what they're doing and who's doing it to submit to the police etc... (we'd also be up dishing out a right good kicking at times but know better!), but other neighbours will rant and moan then refuse to 'be involved' when it comes to doing something about it.

It only takes 3 or 4 similar complaints for an ASBO to be issued, but if it's the same 3 or 4 households complaining each time it is not really a very strong case.

As for moving somewhere more 'middle class', we like where we lives in the main, and do have some very good friends close by, plus not everyone can afford £500k plus to ensure idyllic surroundings.

Oh, and nothing to say the next Michael Carrol lotto lout isn't going to buy into your street at some point wink

No point complaining to police or council, they don't do anything.
I am prepared, and have before, stood up to chavs personally without getting the useless authorities involved.

This is exactly why I did nothing with the guy who was physically threatening me the other day, but didn't actually "start" if you see what I mean. Even my family believe I would have flattened him (I've done a lot of karate and kungfu over the years), but what good would it have done?

He'd have just vandalised my car or something or turned up with a big crowd of fellow chav scum and trashed the flats while we're all out at work. Not worth the hassle.

Yes they will get you back I agree, as they have no moral bounds nor fear of the law!

They also 'know their rights'.

For example, when we approached a gang of 12 year olds a few weeks ago and asked them not to ride their bikes over other peoples (well maintained) front gardens, they replied with a tirade of abuse and then screamed 'help, paedo's'. WTF can you do eh?

At the moment there is a group of them going around on a crappy little old quad bike, I am so sorely tempted to go put a drill through the block, but worried about the consequences.

As said above, you can stand up to the Chavs, the last time I did that I got a brick through my Lotus a few days later.

The problem is that they don't give a monkies about plod etc and know that you do. It's not like I can deck someone and then that is that. They don't work that way, they come back later with more, and sometimes with knives. Until we are allowed firearms to defend our property then we have to be prudent.

Quite, i have gone a bit further, i live in the middle of 1,000 acres with only 1 house visible. Chavs are too lazy to walk up the drive to empty our bins!!!! Works for me

We're also lucky enough to live in an area where we don't get Chavs hanging about and don't really go anywhere that we would run into them, I can't remember the last time I shopped on a high street and precincts (are they still called that?) always have security.

Saying that though I think it's hilarious that the day before we moved into our current home some sod came along and nicked our security cameras!!!! the cheek of it eek but it did make us upgrade our security further.

I have stood up to youths hanging around outside our home and walking on to our land to look at our cars when we lived in Teddington, again hardly a rough area. They did leave but obviously came back as I woke next morning to find a splattered frog drapped across my windscreen.

Yup, have done several times, one I expected to come to blows but didn't. I was almost disapointed.

Then I did a "Colonial", and my biggest problems are neighbours wanting me to fix their computers. Happy days.

Yep, i stand up for myself and it had got me in a fair bit of trouble previously.
And with all the chav bashing on here at the moment (a sport i approve of) i would like to mention that the worst people i have had issue with recently have definitely been more middle class.
My driveway and garden have a fantastic view, you have to walk past 2 "Private Land, No Entry" signs, then open a 5 bar gate and stand next to my spare bedroom window to get the most of it. Whenever i confront the ramblers, nosey gits and sightseers that have made this trek i use the same opening line.
"Hello, are you lost? It's only you are actually in my garden at the moment."

80% of people are nice and will apologise and go to leave immediately, if they do i will tell them where the public area that overlooks the same view is accesible from, and a couple have been so nice that they have ended up with drinkies and a place to sit down for a while. 20% of these people are s! The abuse that has been directed towards myself and the OH about asking people not to stand in our front garden is unreal. I work hard to pay the rent to live in that house, they walk up, open my gates, push past my car and think they can then shout at me. wkers.

My Mother lives a couple of fields away, she has enough land to keep her horse, a couple of other horses and 4 stables, she has had people walk up her fairly long and well signed (Keep Out Private) drive to come see the horses and then threaten her when she asks them to leave, never once have these been chavs doing it. She stands up for herself (bred in a fishing village in East Fife), one "gentleman" tried to stop her getting into her own land when she was on her horse, and then swung a punch at her while she was trying to dismount to lock the gate behind her. I'm sure he can now testify that you shouldn't mess with anyone holding a riding crop.

For the record before anybody shouts about assault, she would have been well aware of what the outcomes could have been, shes a JP.

I have an idea. We could have go-slow protests in queues at Lidl.

I stood up for others and it got me in to trouble too, I won't make that mistake again.

Luckily I don't have chavs in my area but if I did I think I would turn in to the vicar from half life 2 hehe

Most decent people find the thought of a criminal record a frightening prospect. If you tip from defending yourself to being an aggressor you stand a good chance of getting one.

The unfortunate thing added to that is your opposite number, the young half-breed wearing the hoody and the tracksuit bottoms, does not care one jot about a criminal record and more than likely knows all the Magistrates by their first names, anyway.

The rules are not the same and therefore the game is tipped in their balance. Better to avoid them and remove yourself from being near them than try to play a game of which you can only lose.

I will alway make that mistake, one of the things i pride myself on is that i will never knowingly walk by someone in trouble. I know the risks but i would rather end up in hospital with them than have to know that ignored someone who later ended up there anyway (or worse). I do have one rule which is i will never get involved in anything that unless i know my OH is safe. A

nd strangely the sight of an obviously terrified potbellied idiot running into a violent situation screaming "please not the face" has managed to work more than once. wink
