Hi all.

I'm 27, 28 in Feb and have done three winter seasons in the past, twice as a chalet host, and once as a rep, finishing my seasons in April 06. Since then I have been working for Tesco, and owned my own house with my (now ex) girlfriend, and got into road cycling in a big way.

Things have gone a little wrong between us both, and it looks like I'm moving back home to my parents house...and she is going to buy me out of our house, so I'm going to have a good bit of money behind me.

I have always wished to move back to France, and set up a life for myself out there, and I'm wondering if this may be my chance....thing is, I dont know what I can do work wise. My French is pretty basic, although I'd like to think I can improve if I was there.

My other option is staying in England and buying a place on my own, which could be tricky, plus I despise my current job.

What would you, or have you done? Any advise would be brilliant. I would need to find a full time job, and then I could pretty much up sticks I guess.....I'm so confused but I cant live at my parents forever!

Life's going wrong ???

Sounds like it's going pretty well to me, you're young, have a supportive family and a bit of money behind you. Follow your dreams.

Can you do another winter season whilst you brush up on your french and maybe make a few contacts / friends to make the transission to living there full time easier?

Do it. If it doesn't work out, you move back to the UK, and think to yourself, 'Oh well, at least I gave it a shot'. If you don't do it, you will always think of what might have happened.

I've only regretted the things I didn't do.

Agreed, I wish my life was going as wrong as yours.

Going back to your parents will be unbearable at your age.

Don't look at this as a problem; you could not be at a better point in your life to get the hell out of Dodge and try something else. If it all goes wrong you are young enough to come back.

Go for it, France or otherwise.

If you have no children then consider yourself lucky. You aren't tied down to commitment as of yet and still have the opportunity to explore life. I'm 2 years younger than you and have 2 children and am going through divorce. It really does put a lot of pressure on you as children come first once they enter your life. At least you have the freedom to try something new and develop skills which (hopefully for you) will lead you to a much more fulfilling life when you do decide to settle down. Don't think about the negatives. Be positive and go for it. At your age, living with your parents for a little while may also give you a little opportunity to spend more time with them before you embark on your journeys. A girlfriend can be changed but parents cannot.

So smile a little you miserable git. wink

You have experience of working at holiday parks and would like to go to France (I assume the holiday park exp was not already in France??). Find out where the best holiday parks in France are where all the UK people go and give them a call. See if they will let you do a working Visa. Lots of people do the same sort of thing and, most of the time, just picking up the local language whilst your there is good enough as long as you sign up to stay for a long period of time. (friends who have gone out to work as a chef have done the same with no knowledge of the language)

Bassicly mate, make one day, today. Sitting here in 10, 20, 30 or more years time and saying "Damn I wish I had done it" will be a lot more painful than "Well that went a bit crap...time to move back"

Either way, if the worst happens and you were to fail, whats the worst that could happen? You end up back here in the same position as before but with a little less money...and money is nothing when lost on a dream in this way (atleast not to me), always time to earn more...

To put it as some sort of ghey quote...

"If you wake up each morning, look in the mirror and can not say "I am happy in life and love the direction my life is heading" Then its time to change direction.

Would be interested in another winter season?

We will be looking for experienced people in Chamonix this winter. Often, we bring someone into the UK office from Septemberish onwards to learn the sales/ops side of the business for 3 months. It helps us that another person has that sort of knowledge and it gives you a more rounded insight into the industry.

In the longer term also looking at getting into the summer road biking market in the Alps amongst other things.

sound at all interesting? PM...

It sounds like the hardest thing to do right now is get a visa and flight ticket.
You could have your feet up by lunch time.

Under what premise can you get sponsored?

I'd like to use my 1 year visa at some point in the next few years smile
