dont.

Seriously, its a st hole, and I live in basingstoke.

I'd recommend going out in Leamington instead.

My GF is from Cov' and I've been out with her there lots of times and I honestly cant think of a single decent bar.

My first outing, I saw someone bottled on a dance floor, that kind of set the tone. And this was in one of the (now closed) "nice" bars.

Many you wouldnt even dare go into just from the look of the place from the outside. The ones you can pluck up the courage to go into and just generically ste.

There's a couple of vaguely non threatening bang-bang-bang yates-a-like places on medieval spon street, in between the myriad kebab and burger shops. Dont go out past the bars on spon street, you' end up in the middle of the sttiest estate of flats ever. Haf the people I know from Cov has been mugged walking through there.

There's a couple of "scream" student pubs which are harlmess (phoenix in town, aardvaark slightly out of town).

Good luck...

Browns is/was OK, but I'd echo Leam or Warwick instead. Or Basra.

I've only been there once but isn't there a nice couple of old cobbled streets with a few old pubs in behind the new cinema complex ?

Agree that the newish Whetherspoons/Yates type pubs were full of sh*t though.

As you have the Mrs with you, get a taxi to Kenilworth & go to The Cross, The Aardvark or The Kenilworth (if you really want brownie points!)

Just getting her out of Coventry will get him all the brownie points he needs...

(ETA Saxon Mill off A46 near Warwick is very pleasant)

You bunch of soft poofs! hehe

I used to manage a band based in Cov years ago and we played all the roughest stholes that fine city has to offer!

I suggest the Snog & Dumpit in all its concrete bunker glory or if that's gone try the Golden Cross but take your own anti-stab vest and tetanus kit! biggrin

Just to echo, Leamington, Kenilworth, Warwick.

If you don't want to trek that far though then head to Earlsdon 3mins in taxi from Skydome/ cinema
area & there's a couple trendier bars that way The cottage & this Italian bar/ restaurant seemed ok last time I went to visit a couple friends.

The town centres a hole.

To be fair the varsity round the corner is fine for a pint - it will be full of students and workers form the technology park.

I live in leamington and work in Cov I'd echo what everyone else has said, go to leam or Warwick for a drink!

Having said that I've found one decent bar in Cov. A tiny place called Inspire on new union street, only serves bottled French, german, Dutch etc beers. It's in whats left of a church spire, feels like a French bar inside, very unusual for Coventry!

I live in Coventry and generally agree, it's bad. I tend to go to Leamington or Birmingham on a night out.

However as mentioned above Inspire is a good place to go, Also check out Browns. Also Earlsdon is a 5 min Taxi ride from the center as has a couple of ok places, Millsy's and The Cottage.

I'm a student in Cov,
If you are after somewhere relatively quiet, with a decent atmosphere and no students, then your only option is Browns. I have never been in (way too expensive for students) but walk past it most days and it does look really nice inside. Even when the posh students go in they aren't made welcome, so they don't bother and end up getting lashed in a cheaper pub. Although there is a dress code i think so long as you aren't a student they wil greet you with open arms.
Having said that, A LOT of exams finish tomorrow. Even us Auto Designers Have our final Deadline tomorrow so i imagine the town will be rammed with drunken students.
Some people have mentioned a place near the cathedrals. I would avoid that like the plague tomorrow night if i were you. There is a massive Uni Bash going on near/in between the cathedrals at priory place in the street/courtyard area.

So there is some advice i think....
Just avoid it.
