What are these?

Can anyone tell me what these symbols are ??,they appear as a series of small squares each with four numbers or letters inside,
are they some sort of translation for japanese or chinese?
Ive only started noticing them recentley on various websites,especially youtube and ebay,and havent been able to find any explanation as to wtf they are
Ive tried to copy and paste some in this message but it doesnt work,if you go to this youtube page there are loads of them there

Im pretty sure is because you have a missing font. I cant see what you are going on about in that link but I do have the Japaneses fonts installed (they use them in Asto Empires that I play) I seem to remember seing what you describe before I installed the font pack.

The boxes are unicode glyphs for symbols which are not available in the installed typefaces.
