Security deposits on hired goods question.

When hiring equipment where a large security deposit is required in the form of a credit card swipe, do you need to have credit on the card to the value of the required deposit? Or is the swipe enough?

I am considering a £2000 secuirty deposit against a hire but dont have one card with a limit that high.
