I know this is an unusual reguest for PH, but I am trying to find a reading for our wedding that incorporates love/relationships etc and cars. Google doesn't really come up with much as you get pages of ads for wedding cars and a few odd car poems!

We met via a car club and it would seem quite fitting to have an appropriate reading. All the usual girlie readings are a bit too sickly sweet for my liking!

Does anyone have any suggestions or do we have any budding poets in the lounge? (Remember, this is a wedding - so nothing rude!!!)

Cheers all

Sarah

We met, we kissed, we drove, we wed, until the both of us are...

I think it has a ring to it.

stolen from somwhere...

Roses are red,
violets are blue,
I've got a big knife,
get in the van.

There's a wedding reading called "A Walled Garden", quoted below for reference. A few minutes with Word, and you have your reading:

The original: "A Walled Garden"

“Your marriage” he said “should have within it, a secret and protected place, open to you alone. Imagine it to be a walled garden, entered by a door to which you only hold the key. Within this garden, you will cease to be a mother, father, employee, homemaker or any of the other roles which you fulfil in daily life. Here you are yourselves – two people who love each other. Here you can concentrate on one another’s needs. So take each other’s hand and go back to your garden. The time you spend together is not wasted but invested. Invested in your future and the nurture of your love.”

"A Carpeted Garage" (with apologies to the unknown author of the above!)

“Your garage” he said “should have within it, a secret and protected vehicle, polished by you alone. Imagine it to be a V8-powered supercar, entered by a gull-wing door to which you only hold the key. Within this car, you will cease to be a mother, father, employee, homemaker or any of the other roles which you fulfil in daily life. Here you are yourselves – two people who like driving fast. Here you can concentrate on one another’s racing lines. So take each other’s gearstick and go back to your car. The time you spend driving together is not wasted petrol, but is invested in your handling skills and the tuning of your carbs.”

Will a brief mention of a old Ford do?

I Wanna Be Yours - John Cooper Clarke

I wanna be your vacuum cleaner
breathing in your dust
I wanna be your Ford Cortina
I will never rust
If you like your coffee hot
let me be your coffee pot
You call the shots
I wanna be yours

I wanna be your raincoat
for those frequent rainy days
I wanna be your dreamboat
when you want to sail away
Let me be your teddy bear
take me with you anywhere
I don’t care
I wanna be yours

I wanna be your electric meter
I will not run out
I wanna be the electric heater
you’ll get cold without
I wanna be your setting lotion
hold your hair with deep devotion
Deep as the deep Atlantic ocean
that’s how deep is my emotion
Deep deep deep deep de deep deep
I don't wanna be hers
I wanna be yours

I was just about to look this up! Had this at my wedding, all the more appropriate as my 3rd car was a cortina!

Wow. It just goes to show that class doesn't have to cost anything.

Slightly tweeked Pam Ayres poem:

Yes, I'll marry you, my dear,
And here's the reason why;
So I can push you out of bed
When the Cerbie starts to cry,
And if we hear a big end knocking
And it's creepy and it's late,
I hand you the torch you see,
And you investigate.

Yes I'll marry you, my dear,
You may not apprehend it,
But when the alternator goes
It's you that has to mend it,
You have to face the neighbour
Should our exhausts attack him,
And if a drunkard fondles me
It's you that has to whack him.

Yes, I'll marry you,
You're virile and you're lean,
My car is like a pigsty
You can help to keep it clean.
That sexy little dinner
Which you served by candlelight,
As I do chipolatas,
You can cook it every night!

It's you who has to work the wheel
and drive me to the track,
And when I've got PMT it's you who gets the flak,
I do see great advantages,
But none of them for you,
So while I've trapped you with my headlights,
I do, I do, I do!

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
