chick ( feathered type) help
Discussion
I know i should probably have let nature take its course, but i could'nt.
Anyway, saw a small chick in the road, prob fell out the nest, so rather than let a fox get it, i put it in my van, will take it rspca or something tomorrow.
So any help please. It's had a small worm (don't know if some birds are veggies)
and some water. will post pic when battery has charged. It looks like a sparrow, but too young to tell.

Isn't that a blue tit? I'm no expert though! I the SSPCA have a 24hr hotline so I expect the RSPB or whatever your local animal rescue place is to have similar, I called them last week when I found a fledgling and they collected him the next day.

Cheers for the replies. I just done a Google, and a quick read, but can't find
much info on where to take it, get it collected etc. Nor if worms are ok, maybe i should feed it berries, i just don't know.
Anyone got a number, or anything else to help, in a food and water way.
It's gone quite at the mo, will not disturb it.

I'm not an expert but it could be a chaffinch. It's certainly a seed eater with a beak like that. It's well feathered so should make it but I've no experience of rearing one.
Although it is a seed eater, the parents will feed it insects at an early age (high protein diet). I don't know when the change over occurs. But if it has eaten a worm and is still alive you're doing ok.
Best of luck.

Try here, I'll try and find the number I called http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/health/...
I can't add much more than already said, try not too disturb it too often, except too feed it, use tweezers to feed it not fingers.
Don't know where you are in the country but you could try Secret World in Bridgewater for advice, they have 24hr emergency number and are very good.

Thanks for all the info, got some numbers now. will ring in the morning, when i know where i'm working. I think it will be ok til then, it's had 3 poo's on my jumper and they are quite big for a little bird, so i guess it was well fed until i poked my probably unwanted nose in, also poo was very wet, so hydration is prob ok.
Friend sent me pic of baby chaffinch, so i agree with you on the model, (only a baby, but will grow into a fully fledged V8 one day i hope)
Let ya'll know what happens.
Will keep a eye on this thread for a while, incase someone suggests something
urgent/important.
Cheers again.

I've just noted where you are (thinking it was up North or something).
Wildlife Aid are near me in Leatherhead, I'm not doing anything tomorrow and I don't mind driving over to pick the little critter up.
However I can't imagine it's going to enjoy (or survive) a 60-mile drive in a noisy Elise.
Let me know if there are no other options - I can borrow another car.

Mobile, maybe pm me your number, i'm working tomorrow but don't know where, until the morning, i may be closer to you for a meet up.
I will try the numbers i have 1st, to save all the travel issues.
Apart from water, any ideas for breakfast in the morning, something i can get from
the garden, not the mealworm/fishing shop lol.

Mealworm, cheers for your input, if all goes tit shaped, tell me i should'nt feel bad, because if i left it where i found it, or, put it in a safer place, ie, on the bank, it would not be as warm as it is now.
Note to self. Leave nature alone. You (johnny) are not god....
Even though i don't think god should be either.
