What to buy my dad for his 60th birthday?
Discussion
As above, am really struggling to find something.
He is not into sport, follows football on TV but isn't so interested in it that he would appreciate a match ticket/tour, etc, and says he doesn't want anything for his birthday
He's not depressed about hitting the age; he says it's just another number so he's not particularly bothered about it being a special birthday.
My mum is buying the gift of whisky, which he will appreciate. But what can I get? Any ideas?
I'm looking at a budget of £100 max. He has done a Formula First day, done a road-based driving course, and has done one of those "fly a Tiger Moth" things. He also ran a valet parking business for a while and has driven pretty much every performance vehicle available, which writes off the "drive a supercar" days, etc.
Also, can't get him anything like cuff links as he has just been laid off, and given his age it is currently uncertain as to whether he will job hunt or take the opportunity to retire.
So, any ideas from the PH massive?

Ladysmut had the idea of getting my old man a session on the airkix indoor skydiving in MK for his 60th, he really enjoyed it. We all went to watch and had a nice afternoon with a meal and drinks afterward. It sure beat the lame bottle of - insert usual safe drink here - (No offense your mum)

Before I got to the bit about your mother's present, I was going to suggest whisky. However, I was going to suggest buying some different whiskies. A Lowland, a Highland and an Irish (Black Bush or Jamesons).
If your father isn't knowledgeable on whiskies, then this would be a brilliant present. I'm getting on for your father's age, and only recently had a whisky tasting as outlined above. It was a real experience and I enjoyed it enormously.

I've just done that on mine.It sounds a bit daft, but he probably would appreciate a weekend with you doing stuff he wants to do.
Although not for his birthday, mine came down last weekend and we did a booze cruise to Calais on the Sat, then had an easy meal and a couple of bottles of wine each in the evening. We had a look round HMS Belfast on the Sunday.
He had a great weekend.
For his actual 60th, I got him a cast iron skillet pan and a blow torch. I then showed him how to select a good piece of steak, and cook it well.
He was pretty chuffed with that, and so was my Mum, because he wants to cook when people come round for dinner!

We went to Dublin for a weekend with him and a few of his friends. Toured distilleries and museums, ate in good restaurants etc. Great time.
We bought him 60 bottles of beer from a local micro brewery, they printed a special label for us with a photo of him as a lad on it. He was really chuffed. The beer was great and everyone has kept the bottles as a memento.
