Well sort of.

This year has been one of the busiest for the Mountain Rescue team I'm in, and the stupid costs of running two Landys and a Merc van (control vehicle), etc. are not getting any cheaper - despite the recession.

As the team are purely funded by charitable donations, I was wondering whether the kind folk of PH would consider using http://sarmtr.easysearch.org.uk/ in preference to other search engines. You don't have to sign up, it's dead simple, and the team gets 50% of any ad money if you do.

So far it's netted us the grand total nearly two litres of diesel (£3.30), but as they say every little helps hehe

Or alternatively, use this link http://www.amazon.co.uk/280-4521589-9795004?ie=UTF... to purchase books from amazon - we get 10% of the value of your purchase.

If we can get lots of people using both links, it takes the strain off being on call and having to spend many many days tin rattling / running moorland walks / races / providing cas care at events / etc.

To put it into context, a days tin rattling will personally cost each member to attend by the time they've paid for fuel etc. and it takes 10 members and 1 vehicle, to net about £600-700. It costs the team about £20-25k a year to operate, so it takes a lot of fund raising.

Thanks

Rich

Oh and by the way, if anyone has any interesting or novel fund raising ideas, please post them up or PM me. We're always looking for new ideas.

Do you not have a link where people can submit money directly? Im sure many people (myself included) would prefer this to using an alternative search engine.

I agree. Set up one of those justgiving pages, like all those 'Race for Life' people, and that bloke with a beard.

I'd happily donate, as would many PHers i reckon.

Mountain rescue is a very underfunded, and highly valued resource that needs all the help it can get.

It's your business model that is at fault, start invoicing the people you save.

HTH hehe

Yeah, I know, I'll give your search engine a go! smile

We do have a just giving page, but I have to say I don't really like threads asking for sponsorship - I feel people get bombarded enough in daily life with requests for money, without getting asked on here as well.

The point of the two links is that people do use search engines and Amazon a lot, so if we get enough users it may make us a couple a hundred quid a year.

Since you asked though smile the JG page is http://www.justgiving.com/srmrt/Donate but as I said my preference would be for people to use the links as it doesn't actually cost them anything then.

Smiler.

Here's one.

Hire a limo.
Collect Tony BLiar from his next ££££ speaking appointment.
Bind, gag & hood him (leave eye-holes so you can see the fear).
Announce a charity celeb-in-stocks event somewhere public.
Sell stuff at £3-a-bag (y'know. rotten fruit, dog-st, rocks).
On the day, into the stocks & wheel him out.
Publicly thank Tony for volunteering & supporting your cause.
Off with the hood, & job's a goddun'.

Good idea about Just Giving too.

Amongst other things, I sell fundraising football scratchcards, which you can distribute around your team members and friends. A sure fire money maker.

pm me your details, and I will send you a pack FOC, but I am going on holiday for a week or so in a couple of hours, but I will attend to it when I get back....biggrin

Rich - slightly O/T.

Don't suppose you remember going for a search for a 'missing' paralytic lad round Jacob's Mount at Scarborough (overlooking the Sixth Form/St Augustine's school) on a Friday night back in 2002 do you?

2002 was before I was joined the team - was it you?

We get a lot of urban searches in Scarborough looking for suicidal persons or drunks.
