Checked on the RM website and it says 'We have your item ....... being progressed through our network for delivery.

So have they tried to deliver it and left a card for the recipient to collect it or did postie leave it under the doormat and not bother with getting a signature?

It's going to be a significant PITA if it doesn't arrive or arrives without being signed for.

When do undelivered recorded items get returned and where do the get returned to?

The 'posted from' address is the post office that I sent it from.

ITY.

I sent some important pension docs on a Tuesday that had to arrive by Friday, according to Royal Mail they were still being processed Friday evening, Phoned my employer up & they had received them Wednesday, Royal Mail site was still saying being processed a few weeks later so I wouldnt worry too much.

The difficulty is that I can't ask the recipient.

It's an Ebay sale and the winner has behaved rather eratically during the time between winning the auction and me actually letting it get into the roulette world that is RM.

I suspect that he is just busy or not particularly interested in Ebay but I'd feel much happier if I had a copy of the signed receipt from RM.

You do know that it won't have been in RMs clutches from the Far East right? It probably went through about 3 different mail companies hubs before getting to RM! RM may have delivered it the very next day after receiving it!

RM has it's faults, god knows it does but it does take some kicking sometimes.

To the OP, best thing maybe to go to post office and hope they have a decent person behind the desk.

So can the PO that I sent it from do anything?

If it got sent back to them they probably opened it and sold it or chucked it in the bin - no?

Recorded delivery only shows on the RM website once it has been signed for, the message you are getting is a generic text used once the barcode has been scanned at the Post Office you used. It would next update when the item has been signed for, and the postie has returned his sheet of signatures for scanning.

If it has been more than 15 working days since you posted it, then get a form P58 from the Post Office, print off the ebay sales page, the paypal transaction, along with any messages from the buyer confirming it has not arrived yet, and refund the original paypal payment back to them.

It takes about 4-6 weeks from my experience to get the refund back from RM. As long as you had a return address on it somewhere, it will come back to you, rather than the Post Office you sent it from. Otherwise it goes to the dead letter centre in Belfast, who make a basic attempt at identifying where it should go.

Or a postie could have nicked it at some point in the process...

To be fair though, I've sent somewhere in the region of 35000 items by post in the last 6 years from ebay sales, and only filled in about a dozen of the P58 claim forms. All told, they're normally pretty reliable,
