Definitely, if you don't mind travelling out of central London.

Actually, is Tooting any good? It seems pretty "ethnic" although I wasn't paying attention to the shops when I last passed through.

maybe more on the "refuse to go to any wedding in fancy dress."

What about a wedding-themed fancy dress party? nuts

There are quite a few fabric / trimming shops around the Berwick St area of Soho.

I'd look there and ask if one of them can quickly run something up, or knows someone who can.

If not, it's a trip to Tooting or Southall.

You'll still find some of the older guys in grey single breasted suits, and structural white shirts.
It'll be a choice though, i guess the younger people might stick to the satin shirts etc, but i wouldn't have thought it was a set-in-stone requirement.

Southall 15 mins from Paddington. I live near there and shop there on a regular basis as the choice of fruit and veg is outstanding, and "very good price"! Curtain material past and present has been sourced from there; jewellery / shoes / bags etc amazing, and if you want the Bollywood look, it can't be beaten IMHO.

Bonus point: if you drive there in say, a TVR, the accoustics in the multi-story car park are top notch, LOL. Have fun!

sigh. Without getting into a ridiculous row about distances as I'm sure neither of us care where the guy goes; I would not say that Paddington is in Central London. you'd also need to get a separate ticket for the over ground train to Southall.

Brick Lane is 5 minutes walk from Liverpool Street, itself 5 stops from Tottenham Court Road. most people would class the West End as Central London these days I'd say.

Anyway, good luck, OP.

I was talking about it as an area rather than just the street, should have said Bangla Town and Bethnal Green Road, there are some other places at the Whitechapel end and on Whitechapel Road.

by the same token Luton is only 20 minutes or so from St Pancras!
