I currently live in ayrshire in scotland. Its a dump there really isnt much here im struggling to get a job etc. My dad lives in southampton hes constantly telling me how much better my chances would be down there and as much as i dont want to admit it i think he could be right. Has anyone here got any experience of a similar move? Im just wondering because right now im 20 and have never had a wage above £500 a month or a job for more than three months. Also iv been told the quality of life is better is this true?

Move 20 miles north to Glasgow, plenty of jobs.

And if your a true scot then you'll last 2 weeks before the English accent grates against you.

Here fishy, fishy.....

I was born in england but have grown up in scotland, so im not biased either way. No point moving that far south if you dont have a job lined up! Who says you will get a job down there? You say that you only ever have a job for 3 months at a time - why is that? I know ayrshire pretty well, what part are you from? The cost of living will be considerably more expensive that far south remember.

Ah Troon. You are right, not alot there especially employment wise. What about Ayr, Irvine or Kilmarnock? They are easily and near enough to commute to work? They dont seem all that bad. What sort of skills do you have? What did you study at college?

Irvine? Unless op plans to sell drugs for a living or work in poundland this is not the place to go. Seriously though, what sort of job are you looking for?

I didnt think it was too bad. There is the big shopping centre and retail park, rivergate and riverway. On reflection, my last trip up the high street does back up your point wink

It's not too bad I guess, got it's good and bad parts like anywhere else, just that the bad massively outweigh the good

Left Ayr in 1996 moving to Crewe, then to York, back to Crewe, and last year to North Wales.

Finally found the place where I want to stay, and indeed just quit my job as they wanted me to relocate again but I'm wanting to stay put.

You'll have better opportunities down south than stayiing in Scotland.

I actually live in irvine, yourself? Should organize a little local run. What we lack in Job opportunities we more than make up for in great roads. The tourist board can have that one for free!
